Unacceptable student behaviour
(1) Unacceptable student behavior (a) may be grounds for disciplinary action and
(2) Unacceptable student behaviour means, that in the opinion of a teacher or principal,
(a) the student has displayed an attitude of willful, blatant and repeated refusal to
(i) be diligent in pursuing the student's studies,
(ii) attend school regularly and punctually,
(iii) co-operate fully with everyone authorized by the board to provide education programs and other services
(iv) comply with the rules of the school or the school code of conduct
(v) account to the student's teachers for the student's conduct, or
(vi) respect the rights of others, or
(vii) the student's conduct is injurious to the physical or mental well being of others in the
school.
Most behavior and conduct concerns occur within the regular development of student social and emotional growth and can be addressed through the regular interactions of staff and students. Incidents that are significant or ongoing are addressed more formally.
Each incident is unique and requires an adult response that takes into account the age and maturity of the students involved. We commit to keeping parents informed through verbal or written communication about incidents involving your child.
Disciplinary Action which follows as a result of students failing to follow the school rules for responsible behaviour is as follows:
- counseling by teacher, principal, assistant principal or other appropriate school personnel
- community service for the school
- written assignments of a routine nature
- withdrawal of classroom, playground, school and/or extracurricular privileges
- conferencing with parents and students
- suspension of up to five days (parents will be contacted prior to any suspension)
- handle further situations in an appropriate manner.
Parents, students and staff play a strong role in setting expectations for appropriate behaviour at school. Communication between the school and the home is important when problems of misbehaviour arise. Working together helps us make the school a pleasant and safe place for learning.
Expectations on the Bus
Pupils riding on the bus are responsible for their conduct to the bus driver and through the bus driver to the principal of the
school. Continued violation of the rules may lead to the loss of riding privileges or suspension from school.
- The driver must be respected. The driver is in full charge of the bus and the driver's directions must be obeyed.
- The driver may assign specific seats to students at any time.
- Students must not extend arms or head out of windows. While the bus is in motion, students must remain seated facing forward, and must not try to get on or off the bus, or move about within the bus.
- Students must not throw paper or other waste materials on the floor or out of the windows of the bus.
- While on the bus, students must conduct themselves in a quiet and courteous manner, showing consideration for the comfort and safety of others.
- Scuffling, fighting, smoking, and the use of obscene language on the bus are prohibited.
- Students must not distract the bus driver with excessive noise.
- Students causing willful damage to a bus will be held fully accountable.
- When leaving the bus, students must observe the instructions of the bus driver, and must not cross the road without having a clear view in both directions.
- No student or parent is permitted on the school bus unless they have a valid bus pass; or the authorization of the bus driver; or the authorization of the school principal or their designate.
