Security

We appreciate the great deal of responsibility you have given us in caring for your child each day. We have several school procedures in place to make Evergreen a safe place while also maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for those with valid reasons to be in our school. Our safety and security procedures are reviewed regularly with staff and students. Our safety and security plans require the support of parents to be effective. Thank you for taking the time to review these procedures and for helping us make Evergreen a safe and secure environment for your child.

All classroom doors are locked throughout the day as a safety and security measure. All outside doors, except the front door, are locked throughout the day. All visitors must come through the front door and sign in at the office. This way we know who has permission to be in our school. In order to ensure the safety and security of all students, no one is allowed to go to classrooms without first signing in at the office.

Supervision

Students are to arrive at school no more than 15 minutes before the commencement of classes as supervision is not provided before that time. Supervision by K – 3 teachers starts at 8:15 AM. Kindergarten students require their parent/caregiver to greet the kindergarten teacher at their assigned door at the beginning and the end of each day. Kindergarten students who take the bus are greeted and supervised by teachers at the beginning of their school day and they are escorted directly to the bus at dismissal. At lunchtime, supervision is provided for Grades 1–3 students by lunchroom supervisors. There is no supervision on the school grounds after the school dismissal bell at 3:15 PM.

CBE busing students are supervised by staff while they board their assigned bus. For reasons of safety, we encourage students to proceed directly to their bus or homes (or their child care provider) after school.

For safety reasons, students may not leave the school grounds at any time during school hours without parents previously notifying the school and the student receiving permission from the office.

  • For information on lunchroom supervision, please visit our Lunchtime page.

Parent / Visitor / Volunteer Sign-In

Parents take comfort in knowing that every adult in our school is accounted for and their purpose for being here known. We ask all parents, visitors and volunteers to sign in and out of our school at the main office. Visitors and volunteers are also asked to visibly wear the identification tags provided. This process is not designed to inconvenience you. It is designed to inconvenience those without a legitimate reason to be in our school. When a staff member asks, “Have you signed in at the office?” please remember they are doing it out of concern for your child’s safety.

All volunteers must have a valid CPS security clearance and complete an annual school volunteer registration form. Please see our Volunteer page for more information.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
