Pedestrian Safety
We have had an alarming number of incidents where vehicles have narrowly missed hitting a child and/or parent jaywalking in the streets around the school. Thanks to drivers’ diligence, we have been extremely lucky and have avoided what could have been a devastating tragedy for our community. We need parents to help out and do their part. No matter where you park, PLEASE take your child to the nearest corner; wait until traffic in all directions has come to a complete stop, and then cross. They are all our children and their lives are not worth the time saved by crossing in the middle of the street.
Did you know that U-Turns are Not permitted anywhere around Evergreen School? U-Turns interrupt the flow of traffic, put parents and children in crosswalks at greater risk and, especially during winter months, are extremely dangerous as roads are slippery and visibility is reduced. The fine for making an illegal U-Turn is $115.00 dollars. Please help us keep our families safe and drive the extra block to make your turn. If you observe someone speeding or making an illegal U-Turn you can note their license plate number and report that concern to the Calgary Police Service here.
Drop and Go Zones
Please note that we have two drop zones around the school: the street at the front of the school on Everstone Drive and in front of the pathway on the south side of the school. The area in front of our school is designated parking for school buses and a ‘drop and drive’ zone where parents can pull up to the curb and drop their child off. Please do not leave your car unattended. When students are able to exit the vehicle more quickly the ‘drop and drive’ zone works most efficiently for everyone.
Parking Lot is Off Limits
Please remember the parking lot is reserved for staff. We do not have enough space for parents to pick up and drop off in the staff parking lot. When at all possible, we discourage pedestrians from walking through the parking lot as there are staff members and School Board personnel arriving and leaving throughout the day, making it unsafe for pedestrians. Please use sidewalks and pathways around the school.
Being a good Neighbour
We have had a number of community members complain about Evergreen parents blocking driveways, and parking in driveways before and after school. This is a huge inconvenience for Evergreen Community Members. Please be respectful of these families and do not block driveways at any time.
