Spring Break

March 22, 2019

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The final set of Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences for the 2018-19 school year are now complete.  We thank parents for engaging in this process and attending.  We have had parents ask if there could be more booked spots.  The reality is that we would never be able to provide all parents the opportunity to meet with all their teachers.  This would just take too much time resulting in a loss of instructional time to your students.  We encourage parents/guardians to contact their child’s teachers at any time.  Staff emails are on the Fairview School website.

Fairview is very proud of our Eagles Basketball teams.  All teams made it to the playoffs.  Our Jr. Boys, Jr. Girl’s and Sr. Girl’s all were champions of their division.  Badminton tryouts will begin on Monday, April 1, 2019.

Recently we have had a huge increase in parent and student concerns with regards to cell phone use at school.  We have received reports of inappropriate behaviours occurring on social media sites to inappropriate videos been shown to other students.  We would like to remind all students, parents/guardians that you have signed the Fairview/CBE Student Digital Citizenship Acceptable Use Agreement which clearly outlines the acceptable use of cell phones.  A copy of this agreement can be found on the Fairview School Website. http://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/fairview/culture-environment/tech-tools/digital-citizenship/pages/default.aspx

It would be greatly appreciated if parents could review this policy with their child(ren) and review what applications are on their child’s phone.

We remind parents/guardians that cell phones and cell plans are purchased and owned by parents.  It is your responsibility to approve the applications that your child has available to them on their devices.  On most devices there is a parental control setting which allows you to set what your child has access to on their device.

Should inappropriate use of digital devices continue we will consider banning cell phone use at Fairview School.

The Fairview Parent Advisory Council would like to thank all students and parents who contributed to the Spring In Bloom Fundraising Campaign.  We all appreciate your support.  Our next Parent Council Meeting is on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 6:30 pm in the Fairview School Learning Commons.  All Fairview parents are welcome to attend.

We wish everyone a safe and happy Spring Break.  School resumes on Monday, April 1, 2019
