School Program

Each of our students in grades 1-6 have the opportunity for direct music instruction twice per week. Our program focuses on developing the right attitudes and an understanding of key curricular concepts of rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and expression through a variety of skills. Daily, our students can be seen singing, moving and playing instruments. In addition, they develop their “listening ears”, beginning to recognize notes and specific sounds. When ready, our students then move on to reading and writing their own music. Much of our music learning is demonstrated in our grade team celebrations of learning and in most of our key school assemblies.

Overall, we have a very musically talented school. Several of our students study outside of school. Ultimately, our hope is that our students finish grade six with a love and appreciation of music and that many of them choose to continue their music journey into junior high, high school and beyond.
