Principal's Message

Welcome Back to Forest Lawn High School

Parent(s)/Guardian(s)
Good afternoon Titan Families and welcome back to the 2020-21 school year. We hope that, despite some challenging times, you were able to enjoy a safe and relaxing summer break.
School start-up will be much different this year for students, staff and parents. Our main priority for school start-up this year is to maintain the safety of staff and students while returning to school. We are currently finalizing some for the essential protocols and measures we need to ensure all staff and students are safe when returning to the classroom.
Details of the protocols will be emailed and posted to our web-site at the end of the week. In the mean time we encourage you familiarize yourself with the current CBE Re-Entry Plan that can be found at https://cbe.ab.ca/about-us/school-culture-and-environment/health-and-wellness-in-school/Pages/coronavirus.aspx.
As we prepare the school for reopening we do know some decisions which have been made by Alberta Education and/or the CBE for School re-entry.
Wearing Masks - Staff and Students - (Mandatory) - the CBE is currently finalizing protocols for mask wearing.
Consistent Health monitoring
Frequent Hand Sanitizing (entering and leaving a classroom)
Physical distancing (where possible)

Athletics
Connected to our school commitment to provide you information we wanted to provide you an update regarding fall high school athletics start dates. In consultation with high school principals, the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association has decided to postpone the start of the high school fall schedule.  This decision will be re-evaluated on or before Oct. 1, 2020.
This decision was made in keeping with the recommendations of the Alberta Government document Guidance for Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation - Stage 2, alongside the 2020-2021 School Re-entry Plan and the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association document Re-Implementation of Sport in a School Setting.
Supporting the return to in-person classes will take the collective support of school administrators, teachers, staff, students, parents/guardians along with government and Alberta Health Services (AHS). This will be the initial focus on behalf of our student athletes.
Further information regarding this postponement can be found on the Calgary High School Athletic website.
Schedule Changes
Due to COVID 19 safety protocols, we will not be having students do the historical line up into Student Services to arrange for timetable changes this fall.  We are providing the link below for students to request changes.  Changes can be made by Student Services without an appointment in many cases and students will be emailed through their CBEmail to indicate when changes have been made.  Students will also be able to see the changes in PowerSchool.  In extenuating circumstances where we need to communicate directly, we will either phone the student or our guidance secretary will call to set up an appointment time for the student to come in.  Thank you for your understanding.
Revised FLHS 2020 Timetable Change Request
Start Days
Currently we are organizing a staggered entry for our students. This will allow for an orderly orientation of students to the new realities, rules, practices and procedures of the school environment. A staggered start will also provide opportunities for ensuring students understanding of the importance of new safety practices and protocols and the importance of compliance, while ensuring sufficient physical distancing to ensure safety in the first few days of school. The following school staggered entry is as follows:
Tuesday - Thursday - 8:30 am - 3:13 pm
Friday - 8:30 am - 1:16 pm

Tuesday, Sept. 1 - Grade 10 onlyWednesday, Sept. 2 - Grade 11 onlyThursday, Sept. 3 - Grade 12 onlyFriday, Sept. 4 - All grades regular schedule
On behalf of all of the Titan Staff we look forward to seeing our students back at Forest Lawn High School next week!!

RT @Indigenous_cbe: Today is fall equinox - a time when daylight & nighttime share the sky equally. Today is also Treaty 7 Day - the 144th anniversary of the signing of Treaty 7.
