The CBE made history on Friday, May 12, by hosting its first-ever high school Esports Tournament at Forest Lawn High School, representing the thrilling culmination of competitive play between eight participating schools. Schools across the city gathered to compete in the popular game League of Legends, showcasing not only the excitement of competitive gaming but also highlighting the educational value and benefits it brings to students.

After a series of intense matches, Forest Lawn High School emerged as the champions, securing the first-place position. Robert Thirsk High School claimed the second-place spot, while Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School secured an impressive third place in the tournament. The event celebrated the winners while also emphasizing the positive impact of Esports on students' development and engagement in the academic realm.

In recent years, there has been significant growth in the integration of Esports in education. Schools and educational institutions worldwide have recognized the immense value and potential that competitive gaming brings to students. The rise of Esports in education goes beyond entertainment; it provides an avenue for students to explore their passion for gaming while fostering essential skills that are highly relevant in today's digital age. Esports clubs and teams offer a valuable platform for students to cultivate a profound sense of belonging by fostering connections with like-minded peers. Emerging research indicates that up to 80 per cent of students engaged in Esports have not previously participated in any other extracurricular activities within their school. While there are some distinct differences between Esports and traditional sports, they share fundamental elements such as competition, teamwork, community, and critical thinking skills. As Esports continues to expand, it opens doors to new opportunities and career pathways, creating a dynamic and promising future for students interested in the intersection of gaming and education.
