December 2019 / January 2020
Forest Lawn Athletics is in a bit of a transition period at this time as we change seasons from Fall to Winter. Sports that have concluded are Volleyball, Football, and Cross Country. We had a successful fall season with 3/4 of our Volleyball teams competing in playoffs, Sr. Football team lost a heartbreaker in the city semi-finals, and we were able to send a cross-country athlete, Pa S. to Provincial Championships in Medicine Hat where he battled a strong field and the elements to a successful showing. Winter athletics began with the Swim Team who have been practicing for a few weeks now, under new coaches Mr. Walker & Mrs. Dromey. Wrestling started shortly after and will be followed by basketball to wrap up our winter. This year at Forest Lawn, we will play host to the largest basketball tournament in the city of Calgary as we share hosting duties of the District 4 tournament, December 5, 6, and 7. Girls & Boys championship games will be hosted in our gym on November 7th. Finally, as Volleyball season concluded we played host to five of our feeder Junior High Schools, running a very successful “Feeder” tournament. Ernest Morrow Boys and Ian Baz girls took home first place honors (pictures below). We are really looking forward to another successful winter season – Go Titans! @forestlawn.athletics.
October / November 2019
Fall athletics are in full swing here at Forest Lawn with several sports underway. Currently. we have Senior & Junior Boys and Girls Volleyball, Cross Country, Football, Girls soccer and swimming will begin shortly. Our teams have already shown success and great sportsmanship in early competition and look to continue the trend moving forward. Fall athletes have recently received new team Spirit Packs that include athletic swag that shows our new logo and it seems to be a hit. As competition progresses and the seasons move into full gear we are excited to continue representing our great school through athletics. To follow all things Titans Athletics follow our revamped Instagram @forestlawn.athletics. Go Titans!
We had our second Cross Country Meet at Prairie Winds Park; the name clearly a precursor for the weather! Our energetic team of eight proved themselves quite formidable against the wind, with Pa S. finishing 11th out of 119 junior boys (Seriously - wow!) and Natalie H. finishing 18th out of 69 for junior girls (another wow!)
Overall, each runner tried their best and pushed themselves to their limits. We have a ton of pictures (thanks, Kelly!) so I've only included the girls conquering the route's big hill, along with a group warm-up and view of the park.

Volleyball (Jr/Sr Girls, Jr/Sr Boys)
If you like volleyball and want to get involved on a team, meet new friends, have fun with league games, team building activities, fundraisers, tournaments, volleyball workshops, beach volleyball and participate in an out of town overnight tournament, please come out the first day of classes in September to meet your coaches Ms. McKenzie and Ms. Skjenna. You don't need to be the most skilled volleyball player, you just need a positive approach, a good work ethic and you need to be committed to your team. This team runs from September through November. You will need to pick up an athletic tryout form from the Phys. ed. office on the first day of school.
Volleyball is a great way to get immediately connected into the amazing athletics community at Forest Lawn. Make sure that you attend the start up athletic meetings for more information.

Forest Lawn has a proud tradition as one of the toughest wrestling programs in Calgary. Open to all students regardless of size, ability or previous experience we have produced male and female Calgary and Provincial Champions year after year and are the Men's 4A Provincial 2nd place team in 2018. Our wrestlers have become leaders on many other teams as a result of the balance, fitness and toughness acquired through combative sport. Wrestling also has a very strong post-secondary connection with the University of Calgary, University of Alberta, University of Saskatoon, and Simon Fraser regularly recruiting from Calgary graduates.
