Construction 10 - 5 credits
Construction 10 will give students a strong foundation in the woodworking and construction system trades for future opportunities in this sector. Specific emphasis is placed upon shop safety and learning the tools, machines and techniques of the woodworking and constructions systems trades. This course will enable students to take Cabinet Making 20, Wood Frame Construction 20 or Electrical and Plumbing Systems 20. This course is offered at the Jack James Campus.
Wood Frame Construction 20 - 30 - 10 credits each
Wood Frame Construction provides students with a ‘real-world experience in manufacturing homes/structures for residential use. Students in the intermediate (20) and advanced (30) levels will construct a residential home for Homes-By-Avi that will be sold in the commercial market. This innovative and award-wining partnership provides students with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in this high demand sector. These courses are offered at the Jack James Campus and will include a 5-credit workplace practicum.
Prerequisites: Construction 10 for WF Construction 20; WF Construction 20 for WFC 30
Woodworking 10 - 5 credits
The Woodworking program at the Grade 10 level will focus on hand and power tool identification and usage, proper design and fabrication techniques, accurate measurement and proper layout techniques. One of the major objectives is shop safety in relation to tool usage and correct lab procedures. These objectives will be developed through various wood projects completed during the semester. Projects such as a picture frame, a change box, a stool, a table with a drawer, are a few of the projects that will be designed and built. This course is offered at the Jack James Campus.
Woodworking 20 - 5 credits
The Grade 11 Building Construction 20A program will use modules from the Construction Technology CTS curriculum to help students build on the competencies developed in the Grade 10 Woodworking Program. It focuses on developing more complex competencies required for the cabinet makers’ industry. It helps students recognize the wide range of related career possibilities available to them. This course is offered at the Jack James Campus.
Prerequisite: Woodworking 10 or Construction 10
Woodworking 30 - 5 credits
The Grade 12 Woodworking 30 program will use modules from the Construction Technology CTS curriculum to help students build on the competencies developed in the Grade 11 Woodworking Program. It focuses on developing more complex competencies required for the woodworking Industry. It further enhances students’ skills for the construction industry, and also helps students recognize the wide range of related career opportunities available within the woodworking Industry. This course is offered at the Jack James Campus.
Prerequisite: Woodworking 20 or Wood Frame Construction 20
Welding & Fabrication Studies 10 - 5 credits
This is an introductory welding and fabricating (building with metal) course. Students learn how to do basic welds with the Oxyacetylene, Arc, and MIG systems and learn to use basic hand and power tools essential to welding and fabricating. Students will complete a custom or customer project.This course is offered at the Forest Lawn Campus.
Welding & Fabrication Studies 20 - 5 credits
This is the intermediate welding course. Students learn more advanced welds using the Oxyacetylene, Arc, and MIG systems, and how to cut metal with an Oxyacetylene cutting torch and the Plasma torch. As well, students are required to build a custom or customer project. This course is offered at the Forest Lawn Campus.
Prerequisite: Fabrication 10
Welding & Fabrication Studies 30 - 5 credits
Students interested in a career as a journeyman welder or who plan to take further training in the field should complete this course. Students learn to weld steel and aluminum with TIG, do horizontal and vertical welding with the Arc and MIG systems and complete a bend test. Students will complete a custom or customer project. This course is offered at the Forest Lawn Campus.
