Dance

Dance 15 - 5 credits

No dance experience is required for Dance 15 - beginners are welcome! The dance program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to discover various forms of dance and to develop an appreciation for dance as an ongoing life experience.
Prerequisite: None

Dance 25 - 5 credits

Since dance is developmental, all areas of study will be included in each grade; however, the level of knowledge, skill, and attitude expected are greater in each area for each consecutive year.
Prerequisite: Dance 15

Dance 35 - 5 credits

Disciplines: Ballet; Contemporary Hip Hop; Modern Dance; Integrated Dance Perspectives; Creative Dance; Jazz Dance; Performance; Ethno-cultural Dance; Anatomy; Safety; Choreography; Dance History.
Prerequisite: Dance 25

Ballet 15 - 5 credits

Prerequisite: Will be offered by special consideration only. Please contact the teacher to schedule an audition.

Ballet 25 - 5 credits

In this course students learn basic and intermediate ballet technique. Throughout the semester students will work on building a full length classical ballet. At the end of the semester the students perform their show for their family and friends.
Prerequisite: Ballet 15 or Dance 15

Ballet 35 - 5 credits

In this course students learn more intermediate ballet techniques. Throughout the semester students will work on building a full length classical ballet. At the end of the semester the students perform their show for their family and friends.
Prerequisite: Ballet 25

Contemporary Dance 25 - 5 credits

In this course students study contemporary and modern dance techniques through warm ups, center work, choreography, dance history, and floor work.
Prerequisite: Dance 15

Contemporary Dance 35 - 5 credits

In this course students study contemporary and modern dance techniques through warm ups, center work, choreography, dance history, and floor work. 35 level students are expected to choreograph their own dance that will be performed in the semester or year-end recital.
Prerequisite: Contemporary Dance 25

Jazz Dance 25 - 35 - 5 credits each

This course is for students who are members of our school's competitive dance team and is a full year, extra-curricular (after school) course. In order to be a member of the team students must be enrolled in or already have credits in Dance 15 and have been chosen through an audition process. The team competes in the following disciplines; Jazz, Contemporary and Hip Hop.
Prerequisites: Dance 15, plus chosen through audition process


Intensive Dance Program

Who are we?

A high school dance program for students who are passionate about dance.

What does our program entail?

We offer high level training in Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary and Ballet. We have many performance opportunities including dance competitions, school shows and festivals. We work with dance companies such as illFX Education and East Side Dance Festival. 

What Classes do you take:

As a member of the Intensive Dance Development Program you would take the following classes:

  • Grade 10: Dance 15, Ballet 15/Contemporary 25, Dance Performance 15
  • Grade 11: Dance 25, Ballet 25/Contemporary 35, Dance Performance 25, Calm outside of the timetable (online)
  • Grade 12: Dance 35, Ballet 35, Dance Performance 35, Leadership Development in the Arts 35 outside of the timetable (online)
