May-June 2019 Update

Biology 20 enjoyed a field trip to the Calgary Zoo to finish off their Ecosystems and Evolution unit. Everyone had a great time and no one got locked in with the monkeys. Biology 30 got to have a fun filled midterm and are looking forward to their field trip to the Zoo at the end of May in conjunction with their Populations unit.

The Science 30 students are currently in the physics unit investigating different aspects of space, including the formation of stars and the impact of the sun’s electromagnetic radiation on earth.

The Science 10 students are currently in the biology unit investigating different aspects of plant and animal cells. The students will transition to the physics unit in early May, where they will learn about the relationship between motion and energy.

The Chemistry 30 students have been working hard on their Thermochem and Electrochem units. They recently performed an electroplating lab in which they plated a piece of copper with Zinc.

In Physics 20 we have just finished the Dynamics Unit and have moved onto the Uniform Circular Motion and Energy Unit.

In Science 24 we've been exploring car safety by creating cars that will keep our crash test eggs safe in a collision.

The Science 14’s classes are heading to the National Music Centre at Studio Bell on May 16th to participate in “Beakerhead: Science Genius Rap Battles”. Two hip-hop ambassadors are working with students to introduce basic music theory and incorporate science vocabulary and definitions to create science-themed raps aligned with curriculum.

In high school science courses, you focus on interconnected ideas and principles, such as change, diversity and energy. You develop scientific knowledge through collecting, analyzing and interpreting experimental evidence. In science courses, you make connections among science, technology and society. You continue to develop your sense of wonder about the natural world.
