Exams & Graduation

Appeals

If you do not agree with your grade, seek the advice of your teacher, then learning leader of the course, your learning coach or administrator. It is important to note that an appeal should be in a timely fashion, within a day or two of the mark being issued.

Exam Writing

Final exams need to be written the day they are scheduled. If you miss a diploma exam you will need to write during the next session. For school exams there are very few exceptions where students are permitted to write at a different time. This protects the integrity of the assessment. Please see an administrator to consider your options. Please note: family holidays, or early leaves, are not considered a legitimate reason for exemption.

Diploma Exams

Alberta Education directs the Grade 12 Diploma Examinations Program. You may have questions regarding this program for the remainder of the 2021- 22 school year, given that January Diploma Examinations were cancelled by the Minister of Education.

As of March 3, 2022, the Alberta Education Diploma exams webpage states:

  • Diploma exams are expected to be administered for the rest of the school year (April, June and August 2022). The situation will continue to be monitored and the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health will inform final decisions.

  • Due to learning disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the weighting of diploma exams will be temporarily reduced to 10% for the 2021/22 school year only.

For more information on each of these bullets, please refer to this webpage.

Provincial tests are part of a balanced, broad-based program of student assessment. The results provide some of the information that guides our educators as they set targets for student achievement and track the results of school improvement initiatives. Visit the CBE website for more information on our students’ provincial testing.
