Our first day of classes is Thursday,  Aug. 31, 2023 and the school office is open to parents on Monday, Aug. 28, 2023.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten will be on a staggered entry for Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. If you are unsure which day your child starts their first day of classes, please contact the office starting August 29, 2023.

Bus Service

Grade 1-9 students will have bus service available beginning on Aug. 31. Kindergarten students will begin to ride the bus on Sept. 5.

Homerooms & Classrooms

During the first three days that teachers are back at work in August they will be emailing their class of students to introduce themselves and inform you of your children’s classroom number and teacher. Entrance areas by grade will be similar to this past school year which will be sent out via School Messenger prior to the first day of classes as a reminder and/or for new students. On Aug. 31 Kindergarten students will be picked up by their teachers at the furthest North West doors on the compound to the main school, and taken directly to their classrooms.

Grade One and Two teachers will meet and gather their class of students in the gym. All teachers for Grade Three to Nine will be outdoors prior to school beginning to gather their class. Signs will be posted for Grade and Room numbers, to assist with this process.

Lunch Supervision

The following schedule for Grades 1-6 is adopted by our lunchroom supervisors in order to provide a safe and welcoming environment to eat.

Lunchroom

12:30 PM - 12:50 PM

12:50 PM - 1:11 PM

Students will eat at their desks in their Homerooms until attendance is taken. Students are then allowed to visit and socialize while eating. Students are not allowed to share drink/food.

Pre-bell Announcement: Silent/Quiet time to allow students to have time to focus on finishing their lunch and tidying up their eating area. If a bathroom break is needed during lunch, students are to raise their hands and ask for permission.

Lunch Recess

12:30 PM - 12:50 PM

12:50 PM - 1:11 PM

  • Good Weather: Students are dismissed to the outdoors for fresh air and exercise.
  • Poor Weather: Go to the gym for dance/movement exercises OR Go on a supervised walk with exercises interspersed throughout the hallways

The goals of the lunch program are:

  1. To provide a safe, clean and welcoming environment for students to eat a healthy lunch
  2. To provide a relaxing space for visiting/socializing with friends
  3. To provide an opportunity for students to have body movement, both in times of outdoor and indoor lunch (poor weather conditions)

It’s a mass communication tool that allows schools to easily and securely send email, phone and text messages to parents / guardians, independent students in a particular grade, class, school or area. Messages are sent to the parent contacts on file at your school.

Fees and Waivers

School fees will be charged to families starting in October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe.

You can find more information on the CBE school fees and waivers page.

Yellow School Bus Transportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2023-24 school year are created over the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in June. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

More information about 2023-24 transportation service levels and proposed fees are posted on the CBE website.

Your bus stop location and time will be available in your MyCBE account by mid-August.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed. Should routes change or if qualified students are added to a route and the bus becomes overcrowded, conditional riders may be removed to accommodate these changes.

Learn more about transportation on the CBE website.
