Academic Guidelines

Homework Responsibilities

Students

  • The ultimate responsibility for homework lies with the student.
  • At Grades 1 and 2 it is the student's responsibility to properly complete an agenda book, to ensure that all necessary work is loaded into their homework book and brought home.
  • At Grades 3 and up it is the student's responsibility to record their homework assignments in their agenda book.
  • All students are expected to complete and hand assigned work in on time.

Parents

  • Parents should provide their children with a specific location and time that is conducive to successfully completing
  • homework. Homework should become a routine affair.
  • Parents should be actively involved in their child's homework.
  • Parents should be available to assist their children if difficulties arise.
  • Parents should communicate by writing in the agenda, sending an email or leaving a phone message if there are minor homework concerns. If there are persistent or serious concerns regarding a child's homework, the parent should contact the school to set up an appointment.
  • Parents please initial daily the student agenda.
  • Grade 5-9 parents need to check regularly for grades on D2L and PowerSchool.

Teachers

  • Teachers will ensure that the amount of homework remains within the guidelines outlined.
  • Teachers will provide adequate lead time for students to prepare for exams. The exception to this is surprise
  • quizzes, which check a student's ability in a specific area.
  • Teachers are required to create and consistently use a D2L shell with their classes. While Teacher‟s shells may look different and be used in different ways, there are certain requirements that should be met:
  • D2L shells should be up and running by the end of September each year.
  • D2L shells should be regularly updated with daily required homework and due date expectations as well as news about events happening around the school and in the classroom.
  • Grade 5-9 teachers will regularly update grades and assignments marks.
