Please visit our COVID-19 page for the most up-to-date information. Our plan is subject to change throughout the school year as more information becomes available.

One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

Information about the impact of COVID-19 on School Councils is available on the CBE website.

School Council

The Glendale School Council is a strong and active advisory body that is integral to our school’s operation and the success we achieve. The School Council works in a collaborative manner with the school administration and staff to significantly enhance the learning opportunities we provide for students. It also provides an opportunity for parents to learn more about the school, support initiatives and provide input. Once approved and released, the minutes of the School Council meetings are posted to this page.

Meeting Dates/Schedule

The School Council meets most months in the learning commons from 6:45 to 8:00 p.m. See our Calendar page for exact dates. Everyone is welcome to attend and babysitting is provided.

Glendale School Council Special Lunch

A few times a year, School Council organizes a special lunch day for Glendale students. Local restaurants are selected with an eye to variety, tastes of our students, and affordability. Special lunch is fun for the kids, fun for staff, and appreciated by parents as well.

Everyone is included: our Pay what you Can policy

The Glendale approach is to ensure that every student that wants a special lunch, will have that special lunch. Our pay what you can system enables families to pay what they can; extra costs are covered through donations from Glendale families, and by Parent Council. Have a bit of extra change to support special lunch fees? You are welcome to donate, and with thanks.

Volunteering on Special Lunch day!

Special lunch is made possible through the support of School Council, as well as parent volunteers. Extra hands are always in need to deliver lunches to classrooms, and trouble shoot any of the little things that (rarely) arise on special lunch day. Interested in giving a helping hand in the classroom on Special Lunch day? You are welcome to join. Volunteer sign-ups will be sent out a week prior to lunch day.

Healthy Hunger

Healthy Hunger is a group that works with restaurants and schools to help simplify the organization of special lunch events. Families set up an account with Healthyhunger.ca that links your child with their school, and their classroom in that school. Family accounts are free, and orders can be placed online up to one week in advance of the lunch date.

Setting up your account:

Create an account with healthyhunger.ca. To add your child, select Add/Manage Students in the tab, and enter your child’s name. Once you have your city entered, you can select Glendale School from the list of registered schools in Calgary, and then select your child’s classroom.

Your account information is private- the special lunch committee will only see the name of the child, their classroom, and their order.

Ordering Lunches (the fun part!)

There are 3 options for ordering special lunch:

  1. First option is to order, and pay online through HealthyHunger.ca.
  2. Second option is to submit your order online and send cash payment to the School (there will be an order confirmation that you print and send to the Coordinator with payment)
  3. Third option is to send both the order and payment to School. Orders will be collected by the Lunch Coordinator.

Orders must be submitted no later than one week prior to the scheduled lunch date! We won’t be able to accommodate last minute or forgotten orders once the deadline has passed- sorry!

Donations to support special lunch costs can be made directly to the school (we can not accept donations online).

RT @MrsHaley828: One of our kids built this super awesome structure during connect time, so we decided to turn it into math fun! How many blocks are in the structure if you add one more block when building each column? For… 10 columns? 15 columns? 20 columns? https://t.co/klq3BERRi0
