Message on Oct 23, 2020

Alberta Health Services has shared the great news that the Covid-19 outbreak at Escuela Glenmeadows School has been lifted. We appreciate all parents who send their children healthy, continue to use the self-screening tool and when students are sick, keep them at home.  In addition, we are very grateful to all parents for coming into the school grounds wearing their masks – juntos podemos! We have received the great news from CBE infrastructure that our school roof will receive an upgrade.  This will come at a considerable cost to CBE, but the funds will be well-invested to keep us all safe.At our last School Council meeting, we shared with parents that our decentralized school budget is $20,000 for the school year.  The amount is $5,000 below the CBE referent point.  The reason for this lower funding is we lost about 23 students who moved to communities outside our city or moved to their community school.  In addition, the CBE has a new equity funding model across all schools, which fund schools as per need basis. Nonetheless, we can work with this budget, in part, due to the School Society supporting the school with some extras. Our various school assessments, such as report card data and various surveys with students, staff, and parents, show that our School Development Plan should focus on Literacy, particularly on the stem of organization and content.  In the area of Mental Health, the surveys show that we should focus on students showing increased respect for themselves and others.  Our data in this area was ranked as “very high” last year, while this year is ranked as “good.”  We would like to have the scores back in the “very high” range.  We are currently working on a draft to add a Spanish Oral Language goal to our SDP that will enhance students' ability to speak the language in the classroom and within the school.Thank you to everyone for your continued support in bringing your wonderful children with high spirits and ready to learn on a daily basis.
