Dear Parents/guardians,
It has been a busy week (and weekend) for Vanier students and staff.
It all kicked off last weekend when Mme. Shah accompanied a group of Vanier students to the GEM meeting at the University of Calgary. According to Mme. Shah we had one of the largest, if not the largest, contingent of female math students at the meet. Speaking to her afterwards she could not speak highly enough about our students’ engagement, behaviour and excitement. If you want your daughter to access this opportunity, I encourage parents to contact Mme. Shah directly.
This Wednesday was “Take Me Outside” day, a day where students are encouraged to get outside and enjoy nature. This year Mme. Hull organized a wonderful day where students from grade 6-9 had activities planned and lessons outside. This day also permitted us the opportunity to pair off classes and have some of our older students connect with our younger. The feedback we have received from students has been overwhelmingly positive, with many students already inquiring when we can do something like this again.
I was fortunate enough to take my daughter, and dog, to watch our girls’ soccer team win in their first playoff game and head to the divisional semi-finals. The very next night I watched our senior girls’ volleyball team lose a close 3 set match to Queen Elizabeth. In both cases, it was fantastic to see parents and students out supporting our teams. It completely changes the atmosphere of the games and I know that the students appreciate it.
Finally, a few upcoming date reminders that you can read more about below. Our Parent Council AGM will be held Tuesday evening, Oct 25th at 7 pm. Also, our virtual Lynx wear store closes to order on October 28. There is still a chance to order Lynx gear!
I hope everyone enjoys a safe and happy weekend,
Chad Edmonds – Principal G.P. Vanier

GP Vanier Online Spirit Wear
Hello GP Vanier Families. We have taken our Spirit wear store online!
We had an overwhelming number of families requesting spirit wear at the start of the school year and not enough stock to fulfill all of the orders. We decided it was best to take our spirit wear sales online to avoid students missing out when we run out of stock. In addition, our online store allows us to offer more options, such as apparel and accessories. Be sure to check out the store for all the great items available.
· GPV Spirit Wear Store is open for fall orders until October 28, 2022, at 11:59PM
· Orders are typically completed in 4-5 weeks after the store closes and delivered to the school
· All school store sales are custom made and cannot be returned
· If this order is meant as a gift, please contact us and we will hold the order for parent pick up
For more information regarding the online spirit wear, please contact Sherri Nickle at sanickle@cbe.ab.ca
Please see below for the Cafeteria Menu for the week of October 24-27!
Monday – Alfredo $3, Alfredo Pasta with Chicken $4
Tuesday – Buffalo Sliders $3, Taquitos $2
Wednesday – Sweet & Sour Meatballs on Rice $3
Thursday – Burgers (with and without cheese) $3, (This may change to Pizza if our supplier can get it to us)
Thank you all so much for supporting our GPV Cafeteria!
Thank you to the vast majority of parents who are being excellent models for all of our children around pickup and drop-off times. As the daylight hours shorten, it is getting quite dark outside, and icy conditions will soon be upon us. As such, a reminder to please obey all traffic and safety rules, such as avoiding double-parking, not performing U-turns, and crossing at marked crosswalks. We want everyone to be safe.
Vanier will be having a Halloween Spirit Day on Oct 31st. Students who wish to wear a costume to school are allowed to, with the proviso that masks are not permitted to be worn at school as a safety precaution. They are allowed to bring masks for photos or for any spirit activity they may take part in. Any items that resemble a weapon or can be used as a weapon should also stay home. Thank you and we are looking forward to a fun celebration being planned by our Student Leadership Team.
IPP (Individual Program Plan) Reminder
If your child has an Individual Program Plan, you should have received it this past week. Please make sure to sign and return the plan as soon as possible. If you have questions or concerns about the IPP, please contact your child's homeroom teacher or Mr. Cheng.
