Weekly Update November 4th

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It was another busy week at school. We started the week with our Halloween Celebration Day, for those students who chose to participate we saw some great costumes, creative door decorations and pumpkins lining the hallways.

We ended the week with our grade 9s getting introduced to the idea of entering high school via some class talks by Mr. Cheng. Please stay tuned for more High School information from Mr. Cheng and have your child use Google Classroom to find information for Open Houses and Information on programs.

In between we had some parent information evenings for field trips. The first of which is our grade 6s who are busily getting ready to head out to Outdoor School next week!

Next, a few upcoming events that I would like to speak about. On Thursday we will be having a whole school assembly to recognize Remembrance Day. If families have any military memorabilia or other mementos linked to Remembrance Day, Mme Cosgrove is creating a display for the school and would be very appreciative if you could lend us these items.

Finally, parent-teacher conferences are fast approaching and will arrive November 24th and 25th. The tentative plan will be for the November 24th evening interviews to be in person here at the school and the daytime November 25th interviews to be online. More information around these dates and how to book conferences will be sent home soon.

Bonne fin de la semaine,

Chad Edmonds – Principal G.P. Vanier

Attendance Notifications

To notify the school when your student is going to be late or absent from school, please report it to the school via our Attendance Line. When leaving your attendance message, please speak clearly and follow all directions as those are in place so we can accurately record the attendance. Please DO NOT email attendance notifications to our general school email. With our recent staff shortages, and how busy the office gets, we don’t always get a chance to check that email daily.

If you get notified your student was late or absent, please check your PowerSchool account to see if it was a late or absent and when this was. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this attendance notification, please contact our Main Office.

Student Drop Off/Pick Up

When dropping your student off or picking your student up at any time, please park in the visitor parking/student drop off area. DO NOT go into the Staff Parking Area. We have staff that start at various times starting as early as 7:00AM for our sports teams and deliveries throughout the day. If parents are in the Staff Parking area, it prevents Staff from parking in their spots accurately. We have very tight parking for staff so there is NO room for extra vehicles. If you are in the Staff Parking area, you will be asked to move to the Visitor Parking/Student Drop-Off area.

Student Led Conferences

Our hybrid student led conferences will be held on November 24th from 5:00pm - 8:00pm in person, and on November 25th from 9:00am – 2:00pm virtually. We will be sending out a link for Conference Manager to book the interviews in the next couple of weeks. Please access this through your MyCBE parent account to book interviews with teachers.

Did anyone miss their original photos or retake photos, or just want another opportunity to have a school photo taken? Lifetouch’s Calgary studio will be hosting studio retakes on Saturday Nov .12 & Nov. 19.
