Weekly Update January 27

Hello Lynx families,

Welcome one and all to the end of semester 1; Semester 2 will begin on Monday, January 30th. Students can view their semester 2 schedules on PowerSchool, and we will be sharing updated schedules with students via paper copies. Students will be permitted to switch option courses the second week of February. We are asking all students to attend 1 week of their new options before making any requests for change. Option change forms will be available in the office, and families will be notified when this occurs.

Secondly, report cards will be available for parents to view online, using PowerSchool, on Monday, January 30th. If you do not have access to PowerSchool please contact our main office for support.

The Vanier athletics teams continue to be busy in January. Our wrestling team competed in the divisional championships this week and represented themselves, and the school, incredibly well. We won more than a few weight categories and placed in the top 3 in many others. A big thank you to all the athletes and the coaches: Mr. Douma, Mr. Cheng and Ms. Whiteman.

We also had over 100 students try out for our junior and senior badminton teams. I was so pleased to see so many students try out for these teams, and I encourage those who did not make the team this year to try out again next year.

For those families with students in Grade 9, we have truly entered High School transition season. On Thursday, our students were welcomed, depending on programming, by both Western Canada High School and James Fowler. Over the past month, we have also taken students to William Aberhart and Jack James. Hopefully, families have had a chance to speak with their students about these trips and get their feedback on the days. We have also sent home high school course selection paperwork; please ensure you look this over with your child(ren) and send it back when it is completed.

I know that sometimes the amount of information being sent out can be overwhelming, so if you have any questions, please contact the school.

Finally, this upcoming Tuesday January 31st, is our monthly Parent Council meeting. This month Ms. Johnston, our PE learning leader, will be making a presentation to parents about Physical Education and Wellness at GP Vanier. Mme. Laurelle and I will also speak about year 3 in our School Development Plan.

Bonne fin de semaine,

Chad Edmonds – Principal GP Vanier
