Phone In For Safety
The “Phone-in for Safety” program is a program whereby staff/or a SchoolMessenger program will phone parents if a student has an unexplained absence. Please phone the school’s attendance line when your child is absent or late to help facilitate this process.
Lates
Students arriving late to school are missing valuable learning time. Those few minutes add up over the course of the year. They also interfere in the learning of other students.
CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students states: “The Calgary Board of Education believes that there is a strong positive correlation between attendance and effective education. Therefore, students registered in schools or programs shall attend regularly and punctually. It shall be the responsibility of parents to ensure compliance with this requirement, and the responsibility of schools to ensure that parents are informed promptly when attendance of students is not satisfactory.”
We Believe in Academic Success
We believe that good attendance is an important factor contributing to the academic success of students. To keep you informed of your child’s class attendance in a timely manner, we will be using SchoolMessenger to notify you by phone whenever your child is marked absent from class and we have not received a call from the parents. The phone calls will be made each morning and afternoon after attendance is taken. Upon receiving an absence message from SchoolMessenger for Grant MacEwan School, please call the school to let us know the reason for the absence or it will be marked as an unexcused absence.
