Lunchtime

Lunch Supervision for Grades 1-6

We will offer a supervised lunch program for both bussed and walking students in Grades 1-6. The lunch program can be accessed on a full time, part time or on a drop-in basis.

When students transition to the new school, we will reach out to confirm registration in the Lunch Supervision program.

Lunch Break for Grades 7-9

We strongly discourage Grade 7, 8 and 9 students from leaving the campus at lunch. However, with parent consent a student in those grades may go off our property during the lunch hour. Please conduct yourself appropriately within the community or you could lose off-campus privileges. Students are expected to return to school on time and to maintain good relationships with the residents and business people in the community

Nutrition

A key aspect to being a healthy individual is good nutrition. A labelled water bottle is a great way to encourage healthy daily hydration. We support good nutrition by offering healthy food choices to students through our student servery, vending machines, canteen/tuck shops or parent/school/teacher sponsored lunch events at school.

We do not offer pop, energy drinks, chips, candy, chocolate or products classified as natural health products.

In order to support healthy growth and development, it is important to provide affordable and accessible nutritious snacks in school.  We would appreciate reasonable environmentally friendly containers be used – that way we can be as garbage-free as possible.

Our Nutrition - Administrative Regulation 3047 applies to food and beverages served or sold by CBE staff or CBE contracted food service providers. It does not apply to the lunch or snack items parents send with their child or to school council sponsored lunch days.

We are also committed to adhering to Alberta Health food services standards.

Allergies

As we will have students in our school who have severe food allergies, it is our request that students do not bring lunches or snacks to school that contain peanuts, nuts, or nut by-products. Thanks for helping to keep Griffith Woods safe for all students. For more information, see our Illness & Medical page.

Activities

JUST DO IT! There are lots of things to do during the lunch break, pick an extracurricular activity and join in the fun! Clubs, intramurals and athletic practices may all take place during this time. Joining a club is a fantastic way to meet other friends and have fun.
