​​​Regular Program at the CBE

Even though most of our schools offer a regular program, no two are quite the same. All schools teach according to Alberta Education’s mandated curriculum, however a school’s focus, optional courses and school activities are as unique as every school.​​​

Homework

Parents are encouraged to discuss their child’s daily school activities and to review together completed work or assignments that are brought home. Parents are encouraged to provide a home environment that facilitates home study and leisure reading.

In Division 1 (Kindergarten, Grades 1, 2 and 3) daily home reading is encouraged by all classroom teachers. Homework for Div 1 students may be 5 – 10 minutes of reading per night.

In Division 2 (Grades 4, 5 and 6) daily home reading is encouraged by all classroom teachers. Formal assignments will be given and students are expected to complete missed or unfinished classroom work. Suggested study/reading time is 20 minutes daily.

The Calgary Board of Education is desirous of promoting the development of good study habits. It believes that home study can contribute to this objective as well as the reinforcement of learning.
