Principal's Message

A Week to Celebrate!

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
          —Mark Twain

Dear Henry Wise Wood Students, Parent/Guardians, and Community,
We are so very proud of each of our Class of 2022 Graduands! We had an excellent rehearsal and look forward to a wonderful day on Friday. Grade 12 Parents/ Guardians, please review the attached graduation newsletter for information updates, also posted in your student's grad D2L shell. We are livestreaming the Ceremony starting at 9:30am, so please tune in if you are watching remotely.
In other news, our IB exams are complete! Congratulations to the participating students for their hard work, and to Ms. McKay and the team of staff who created such a calm and secure exam environment.  Please hand in your textbooks to the Learning Commons if you do not require the books further.
Many of our school teams continue in Playoffs this week, we are so proud of our Warriors!  Please see below under Athletics for detailed information from our Athletic Director.
Additionally, on May 30 and June 6, students will have the opportunity to attend two lunch and learn presentations provided by CCASA. These presentations are optional and a pizza lunch will be provided. Students need to sign up in advance. This session has been organized by the Warrior Voice Café students as a response to growing concerns around issues that are facing many of our students. This presentation covers more sensitive matters and addresses the many questions students have shared around the topics of sexual violence, consent, reporting, and supports. Guidance counsellors will be on hand to provide support.
We look forward to our Spirit Week next week culminating in our June 3 Pep Rally and food trucks.  More information to come.
And finally, as students' thoughts turn to final exams, please remind students of all the wonderful supports available to them through Tutorials, after school help and conversations with teachers. The Guidance team is also standing by to provide support.
Thank you for your partnership with us, Warrior families,
Aileen Smyth
Principal
