School Supplies

Students supplies are provided by the school for children in kindergarten through grade 4.  We ask that families provide a pair of indoor running shoes that are to be kept at school (runners only please as they need to have appropriate footwear for gym; and if your child does not know how to independently tie their shoelaces, then they need slip-on or velcro runners); a large backpack; plastic (not glass) water bottle; and a lunch kit with reusable cutlery.  Ensure that all items are labeled with the student's name.

Lunch Supervision

Kindergarten to Grade 4 students staying for lunch will be required to pay lunch supervision fees. These fees cover adult supervision during the lunch hour -- while they are eating lunch inside the school and while they are playing outside at lunch recess.

For more information visit our Lunch Supervision page.

Assigned Teachers

Teachers will be emailing parents on Aug. 30 and 31, 2022 to introduce themselves as the students’ homeroom teacher. At this time, parents are requested to provide transportation, legal, and medical information to teachers, as the safety and health of all students is our priority. We want to ensure that on the first day of school, the teacher and school is aware of all important student information.  Please meet your teacher at the back (south) compound.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten classes begin on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022. Please meet your teacher at the back (south) compound.

Registration Information

Currently, Highwood School conducts a lottery for acceptance into kindergarten and Grade 1. As such, there are wait lists for these grades. For acceptance into Grades 2-4, students are required to complete a test to ensure that they are
reading, writing, speaking, and comprehending Mandarin at grade level expectations. Acceptance into these grades is also dependent on space availability.

Please visit our How to Register page for registration details. Please note that the registration process is completed online, but schools can assist with any questions.

Most school messages are sent to parents through SchoolMessenger. It’s a mass communication tool that allows schools to easily and securely send email, phone and text messages to parents / guardians, independent students in a particular grade, class, school or area. Messages are sent to the parent contacts on file at your school.

Fees and Waivers

School fees will be charged to families starting in October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe.

You can find more information on the CBE school fees and waivers page.

Yellow School Bus Transportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2023-24 school year are created over the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in June. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

More information about 2023-24 transportation service levels and proposed fees are posted on the CBE website.

Your bus stop location and time will be available in your MyCBE account by mid-August.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed. Should routes change or if qualified students are added to a route and the bus becomes overcrowded, conditional riders may be removed to accommodate these changes.

Learn more about transportation on the CBE website.
