“How can growth contribute to a world that is sustainable and resilient through understanding my responsibility to self, others, and this place?"

January 29th, 2023

Good morning and happy Sunday to our Ian Bazalgette families.  We hope this finds you enjoying your Sunday in a cozy and safe manner.

We have our report cards for Semester #1 coming live tomorrow.  Parents can access the report cards through your Mycbe account. If you are having any challenges accessing the report cards through your Mycbe account please do not hesitate to contact the school and we will be happy to assist.  If you want a hard copy of the report card please reach out to your student's teacher and we will accommodate.

In regards to the report card and assessment, I want to remind parents students are assessed against the outcomes as they relate to what a student is capable of completing at the end of the current year.  As a result, there is still another half year remaining to help students improve and reinforce the learning for their current year.  In the report card you should be able to know: “what your student is able to demonstrate", “What their next steps are" and “How they will be supported".  In an assessment rich environment student's will have multiple manners and multiple opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding.  We know that learning evolves through the year as students develop deeper understanding and concepts begin to click and make sense as they are revisited.  As such we use this report card time as a sign – post and assess where we need to go with the learning. We express to our teachers the assessment is as much for them as it is for the students.  We use this assessment to make learning decisions as we move forward.  If you have any questions or concerns about the report cards we encourage you to reach out to your student's teachers to discuss directly.  Teachers are aware of the importance of involving parents in the learning process in support of student learning.

This past week we had a great show by our wrestling team at the divisional meet.  We had several students finish first in their division and many place in the top 3.  Quite an accomplishment for our athletes and we congratulate them for their efforts.  We would also like to thank Mr. Aldridge, Mr. Sinclair, Mr. Ogle and Ms. Shurvell for their coaching. The next season of play is badminton and we are excited already as the teams are finalizing their rosters.

This week we will be starting our Semester #2.  Students will have an opportunity on Thursday in grade 7, 8, 9 to begin their new complimentary courses.  As a reminder we had students complete a form last year and placed them the best we could on what they shared with us at that time.  Along with this, we have to make decisions based on class sizes and resources available.  I know the complimentary team is excited to start semester #2.

Just a reminder that we moved our Parent Council meeting to this Tuesday at 5:45pm.  The link was sent out and we encourage out parents to attend as your voice is important.

Have a great Sunday out there.

Terry / Jamie-Dee
