High School Completion 

Students at Jack James have two options for completing high school: 

•  Certificate of High School Achievement (80 credits) 
• Alberta High School Diploma (100 credits)  

Which path students choose will depend on their goals following high school graduation.  Students will work with their Guidance Counsellor to identify entrance requirements for the post-secondary institution, career and/or trade of their choice, and then choose the path for high school completion that best meets their needs.  Students may transfer between the two completion strands, and may also complete both a High School Certificate and a High School Diploma. 

Certificate of High School Achievement 

A provincial Certificate of High School Achievement will be awarded to a student upon successful completion of the Senior High Knowledge and Employability (K&E) Courses. 

Grade 10

• English 10-4
• Social 10-4
• Math 10-4
• Science 10-4
• Phys. Ed 10 Three shops*

Grade 11

• English 20-4
• Social 20-4
• Math 20-4
• Science 20-4
• CALM 20 Two 20-level shops* 

Grade 12

• English 30-4
• One 30-level shop* 

*A student must complete 40 credits in the Occupational Clusters (Shops) 

Why Jack James Diploma Classes?

Diploma Courses at Jack James are designed for students with specific needs that would benefit from a more supportive classroom environment with fewer students. This may include students who:

• Achieve success through experiential learning activities
• May benefit from non-traditional learning programs and environments
• Smaller classes 
• Want  to  explore apprenticeship and/or  post-secondary opportunities at the college level
• Students wanting to explore apprenticeship and/or post-secondary opportunities 
• Express goals that include succeeding in school to become better prepared for the workplace 
• Achieve success through experiential learning activities 
• May benefit from non-traditional learning programs and environments
