Fall Sports Update
Dear Parents, Guardians and Students of James Fowler
The Calgary Senior High School Sports Association (CSHSAA) in conjunction with the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District have authorized the formation of practice cohorts for fall sports.
All practice cohorts must adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Government of Alberta as outlined in the document Guidance for Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation-Stage 2. Additionally, the CSHSAA has set forth regulations that all schools must adhere to.
While student interest is important it is not the only factor that will affect our school’s decision to run a sport cohort. Community Transmission rates, Availability of Staff, Sanitization requirements, and limiting the number of cohorts and cohort sizes will also factor into our school’s decision.
Athletes and Families must also make informed decisions regarding their decision to participate in a school sport cohort. Information that may factor into your decision might include:
- School cohorts are prohibited from interschool competition at any level – there will be no interschool competitions for fall sports.
- Participation in a school sport cohort could increase an athlete’s chances at exposure and may be disruptive to their academics.
- Alberta Health Services have asked families to limit the number of cohorts an individual is part of. Some community programs may prohibit participation in additional cohorts.
- Cohorts by necessity will be structured differently than typical High School Athletics teams and will focus on skill development rather than competitive game play.
- Tryouts may be necessary to adhere to cohort size restrictions.
We will be running the following athletic clubs:
Girls Soccer – Tuesdays and Thursdays @ 3:45 in the Back Field
Girls Volleyball – Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays @ 7:15 in the Main Gym
Boys Volleyball – Wednesdays and Thursdays @ 3:45 in the Main Gym
Thank you for your support during these unprecedented times.
All involved in the James Fowler Falcons High School athletics program are committed to success on the court/field. In the process of achieving that parameter of success, we also acknowledge that the world outside the athletics is where true success and fulfillment can be found. Our goal is to develop student/athletes as well rounded people with strength of character.
Program Philosophy
In reaching our goals we turn to the three legs of our “Success Triangle”:
Playing Hard – We are competitors without equal. We, as players and coaches, are striving to make sure that no one prepares more thoroughly or works more diligently to become a successful team than us. It also means giving our all in being students and staff at James Fowler.
Playing Smart – Being a player or coach who is prepared for practice and games, who understands what is needed to be successful, and is willing to do what it takes to achieve our goal. Our team will execute all phases of the game at all times.
Playing Together – means accepting our teammates and coaches as they are molding ourselves to do whatever we can to make the TEAM successful. As a group, we are also remembering to enjoy each other and have fun while we participate in this great game. In our off-the-court/field-lives, it means contributing our time to others, to good and worthwhile causes and to the welfare of our families and loved ones.
