Traffic Safety

Ensuring our students get to school safely is everyone’s responsibility. Please be mindful of crosswalks, parking rules and speed limits when you are near our schools, especially during the morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.

Parking & Drop-Off

Parking at the School

Parents may pick-up and drop off in the church parking lot or on 30th Street. Long term parking is not permitted. Please note that the East side of 30th Street has a two-hour parking limit. All of the stalls in the school parking lot are reserved for the staff during instructional and Parent/Teacher hours. Please do not stop in the bus zone. The front of the school is a ‘No Parking Zone’ as EES and DHH students are dropped off in this area. If you do park between the handicapped zone in front of the school you may be fined by police.

Lakeview United Church Parking

The administration of Lakeview United Church is requesting that parents only use their parking lot for picking up and dropping off of students. Their parking lot cannot accommodate large numbers of cars during the day or evening. Spots must be kept available for employees and rental groups using the church.

We are an Idle-Free Zone

We encourage all of our families to treat the area around the school as an Idle Free Zone. The combined emissions released from idling cars can be quite high, so we encourage parking and shutting off your vehicle until your child arrives. Thank you for your co-operation.

Modeling Pedestrian Safety

Children should be crossing the street using the crosswalks or at street corners. We have had safety concerns with children running between parked cars to meet their parents across the street, emerging from between parked cars, unseen to motorists driving by. This is not safe pedestrian conduct.

Please encourage your children to think safety over convenience when they cross the street. Parents, for safety reasons, please do not drop-off/pick-up your child in the staff parking lot. Children should always avoid walking through the parking lot to meet their parents. They should walk on the adjacent grassy area. We often see Parents and students walk in front of and between parked buses. Do not walk in between or in front of buses. Please cross at the crosswalk where the patrols are stationed for your safety.

School Safety Patrols

A School Safety Patrol, organized with the support of the Calgary Police Service, is in operation at our school. Many of our Grade 5 and 6 students volunteer their time in order to offer this service to our students.

Two crossings are in place -- at 63rd and Lindsay Drive -- in the morning and after school to ensure safe crossings for students and families. We appreciate the support of all parents and community members in encouraging students to follow the patrols’ guidance. We ask parents in areas where the patrols operate to follow the guidelines and model for the students.

Please do not jay walk or walk between parked cars.
