March 2019
Grade 3’s are very busy getting ready for our Celebration of Learning on March 14, 2019. We singing, dancing and telling stories as part of how stories shape communities. We are looking forward to taking flight with you on this special adventure! We have been working with Joanne Baker from Decidedly Jazz Danceworks to incorporate our learning through dance and Mrs. Skulski to learn two unique songs that tell our learning about our learning journey.
The Rainbow Trout have now hatched into alevin! They are growing well and we have started feeding them. Pop by room 18 anytime to see this life cycle in action. Interviews are fast approaching and we are looking forward to meeting with everyone again on March 21 and 22.
February 2019
January has been a fantastic month of learning! Our grade three students are a part of the FinS program this year. The FinS program is a unique opportunity to raise trout in our classrooms. Over the next five months, our students and teachers will work together to maintain and monitor the development of rainbow trout – from egg to fry – in a classroom aquarium. At the end of the program, we will be releasing the " fry" into a provincially-approved waterbody. All of the students visited the Bow Habitat Station this month to explore the fish hatchery facilities and to learn more about the life cycle of rainbow trout and the importance of understanding their characteristics and adaptation skills. Most importantly, we learned more about the responsibility we have to be "environmental stewards" in protecting all living species. This week, all four classes also took part in an online webinar with several other classes from around the province who are also involved in the FinS program. It was such a great opportunity to ask questions and find the answers to some of our wonders from a fish and wildlife expert!
All of the grade three students will be going to the Lakeview Community Center on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 (from 12:45p.m. to 3:00 p.m.) to participate in a skating party. Please watch for a field trip form next week.
