Staff Appreciation BBQ – Help Required

The School Council/Parent’s Society is hosting a Staff Appreciation BBQ, for more information please check out the sign up form.

Class Schedule – June 13-17

Monday - Diploma Exam – Grade 12 and invited credit recovery students only Tuesday - Diploma Exam – Grade 12 and invited credit recovery students only Wednesday - Regular Classes
Thursday - Regular Classes (last day of regular scheduled classes)
Friday - Diploma Exam – Grade 12 and invited credit recovery students only

Diploma Exams

All students who are in 30-level core classes need to ensure they know when their Diploma exams are scheduled for, the dates are times are posted on the website. Students need to arrive 15 minutes prior to exam start time.

MyCBE Semester End Information

Viewing of the class grade will be disabled in the MyCBE as of June 15, while teachers work to finalize final grades and comments for semester two report cards. Report card grades and comments will be turned back on after grades have been submitted to Alberta Education. Viewing of the class Grade will be enabled on June 28.

Locker Clean Out

A reminder to all students who have lockers to make sure they are cleaned out prior to Thursday, June 16. Thank you!

Moving?

Current Grade 10 and 11 students: If you will be moving and not returning to JCS and/or the CBE, please contact the main office to let us know.

Student Access to CBE Platforms Ends When They Leave the CBE

On June 30, anyone leaving the CBE will lose access to all CBE platforms (students leaving CBE and grade 12 graduates). This includes access to:

Brightspace by D2L
CBE OneDrive and Outlook

Before June 30, students must save any files they wish to retain in personal storage locations. CBE students will lose access to any documents shared with them by those who have left CBE.

Learning Commons

Please return all library books to the 3rd floor Learning Commons by June 10. Novel studies and textbooks must be returned as soon as they are no longer needed.

Books not returned on time will be charged to student accounts. Please check MyCBE for late or lost book charges.

Elevator Passes

If students have an elevator pass signed out, please ensure that it is returned to the Business Office when students have completed their courses before the end of the semester.

Parent Society Casino – Volunteers Needed July 18 & 19, 2022

The JCS Parent's Society is hosting its first ever casino!! We have waited 4 long years to get a casino and now we finally have it. The details are as follows:

Monday and Tuesday July 18 & 19, 2022 (Stampede is over!) Deerfoot Inn & Casino - 11500 - 35 Street SE, Calgary
Total of 36 positions need to be filled over the 2-day casino All volunteers must be 18 or over
No experience necessary – all positions will be trained at the beginning of each shift Excellent opportunity to read, catch up on email (bring your laptop), finish that online course, crafts or bring a non JCS friend or family member and catch up with them – ask those who have volunteered before as it is quite a bit of fun. Meal, snacks, and refreshments (non-alcoholic) will be available.

The proceeds from this casino will be allocated back to JCS programs as follows:

1/3 to Athletics (football, volleyball, golf, badminton, rugby, basketball etc.)
1/3 to Fine Arts (choir, drama, band etc.)
1/3 to JCS Parent's Society for other student initiatives

Of course, the expectation is we should have volunteers from all 3 groups (Athletics, Fine Arts, and other parents) as we will allocate the funds in that manner - ⅓ from Athletics, ⅓ from Fine Arts and ⅓ to the parents from the general student population.

News from the Student Success Centre

Summer School – the deadline for students to request a course in Summer School with the CBE has passed. Students are still able to register independently with either Vista Virtual or Golden Hills Academy should they wish to take an on-line course over the summer. See their website for more information and to register.

CBE Summer School – if a student requested a Summer School course through the Student Success Centre D2L shell with either CBe-learn or Chinook Learning, a reminder that students and a parent/guardian will receive an email notification of your placement in the course during the week of June 6 – 10.

2022-2023 Course Requests – the deadline for students to request a change to next year’s course requests has now passed. No further changes will be made to next year’s course requests. Students who wish to make a change to the course(s) they have selected for the 2022-23 school year will be able to do so closer to school start-up in September.

Student Success Centre information and pertinent announcements regarding post-secondary, scholarships, myPass, myBlueprint and many other resources are posted in the Student Success Centre Brightspace D2L shell. Every JCS student is enrolled in this shell and can access this information.

Attention current Work Experience students: Do you want to continue earning Work Experience credits this summer? Please contact Mr. Gelfand in the 3rd floor Learning Commons for Summer Work Experience/RAP registration. Registration deadline is June 14.
