CSHSAA Update For Fall Sports 2021

With the province moving forward with it’s reopening plan we anticipate being in Stage 3 when school opens up in August. If this is the case, we anticipate both the CBE and the CCSD will allow athletics to begin on their scheduled start dates as laid out in the CSHSAA calendar.

CSHSAA Update
JUNE 24, 2021
Good day,
As this school year winds down, we want to give an update on the status of high school sports for the fall. The CSHSAA executive met this week to address the possibility of athletics resuming in the fall. With the province moving forward with it’s reopening plan we anticipate being in Stage 3 when school opens up in August.

If this is the case, we anticipate both the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) and the Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) will allow athletics to begin on their scheduled start dates as laid out in the CSHSAA calendar.

Of course, any regression back from Stage 3 would impact the ability to start training, but as COVID 19 cases drop and society continues to re-open, we are optimistic this will be the direction CSHSAA Athletics moves in the new school year.

While this will bring up several questions, we will work with our sport chairs and coaches in August, after they return, to ensure a safe and smooth transition back to athletic training, and eventually competition. The specific details and logistics will be finalized and communicated by the school districts (CBE and CCSD) in August. Schools will continue to take their guidance from their respective school districts and the Alberta government. The CSHSAA will continue to work with the School Boards to communicate decisions and information that impact High school Athletics.

It has been a long year and a half, and we know everyone is excited as the resumption of High school athletics becomes more and more likely. Please enjoy a well-earned break and we look forward to working with all stakeholders as we safely return to sport in our schools.

Thanks for everything you do for our students,
