Behavioural Expectations
The Alberta School Act states that a student shall conduct himself or herself so as to:
- be diligent in pursuing the student’s studies;
- attend school regularly and punctually;
- cooperate fully with everyone [all adults] authorized by the board to provide education programs and other services;
- comply with the rules of the school;
- account to the student’s teachers for the student’s conduct; and
- respect the rights of others.
We expect students to:
- treat themselves, each other and all school personnel with courtesy and respect;
- use positive and inclusive language;
- model positive social behaviors in all interpersonal interactions, including online;
- demonstrate good digital citizenship by using technology in ethically and responsible ways;
- demonstrate concern and care for the rights and property of others;
- respect the rights of others to learn and to teach;
- help keep our school environment clean and litter free.
Examples of behaviours that will result in suspension include, but are not limited to:
- possession of or active contact with a weapon on a student’s person, backpack, or in a student‘s locker;
- use, possession of, distribution, or active contact with drugs, alcohol, or inhalants (including cigarettes, Ecigarettes, and vaping devices) in school or on school board property;
- threats, extortion, assault or conduct that endangers others, both in-person and online;
- use or display of improper, obscene, or abusive language;
- theft;
- trespassing;
- lying to an administrator;
- willful damage to school or other’s property;
- personal or sexual harassment, including hazing or initiation activities, both in-person and online;
- disruptive behaviour (ex. bouncing basketball in the halls), willful disobedience or defiance of authority, interfering with the orderly conduct of classes or the school;
- tampering with fire alarms and safety equipment; or
- use of pictures and videos taken on smartphones without consent.
