School Start and End Times

John G. Diefenbaker High School is committed to providing students with optimal learning environments that support academic, social, and emotional growth and success. As a staff, we continue to explore new and more efficient ways to support and enhance student learning opportunities.

As we finalize schedules and teaching assignments, students may have changes made to their respective timetables. These changes happen in an effort to lower overall class sizes, and provide students with optimal learning environments/situations.

 Bell times are as follows:

Student Schedules

Student schedules will be available through their MyCBE / PowerSchool account starting in early August. Please note that schedules may change until the first day of classes as counsellors balance classes and add new sections as classes fill up.

Course Change Requests

To request a course change please email your counsellor (based on students last name) at the email below:

This process is designed to develop a more effective way of requesting course changes for students without missing classes and to eliminate the long line-ups and wait times students have experienced during the first days of school.  If this request cannot be facilitated over the summer, we will forward it to your Guidance Counsellor when they return on August 21, 2023

When requesting a course change please remember:

  1. Course changes will not be allowed based on teacher preference, time of day that students wish to take the class or the enrolment of friends in specific classes.
  2. It is very important that students complete the form if they have completed a course in Summer School but are still registered in the class, or if students do not have the prerequisite to take a specific class.
  3. Please use this process for “dropping” courses- Students in grade 12 are required to have a minimum of three courses per semester. Students in grade 11 may be eligible for one spare during the year. Grade 10s are not eligible for spares.
  4. Counsellors will contact students if they need clarification or have questions. This limitation on requests means that students must be thorough in their explanation and mindful that their initial request is also their one and only and FINAL request.
  5. Please be patient. Counsellors will be in contact with students through email or by phone if necessary.
  6. During the first 3 days of classes counsellors will only be meeting with students who have “See Counsellor” on their schedule and will call these students out of classes to meet with their counsellor in Guidance.
