Important Dates

We follow the CBE Traditional Calendar. The calendar sets common start and end days, non-instructional days and holidays. For our school’s additional non-instructional days, late entries, early dismissal days and events, see our school calendar page.

Planning is underway for what the 2020-21 school year will look like for our students, staff and families. The CBE has created an internal task force with representatives from every service unit to lead the planning for different scenarios. All of our decisions will be guided by the advice of the province’s chief medical officer of health and Alberta Education guidelines. The safety and well being of our students and staff will come first in any decisions we make. More information will be provided to families before the first day of classes on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020.

First Day of Classes

2020-21 John Ware Calendar

Our first day of classes is Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020 and the school office is open to parents on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

  • Students walk, bus, bike, or get dropped off for school.  If you drive your student, please drop them off in the cul-de-sac or on Palliser Drive across our field.  Do NOT use the parking lot for drop off as there is too much pedestrian traffic for this.
  • All students are asked to arrive at school just prior to 8:30 AM on Tuesday, Sept. 1. All Grade 7's will meet in the gym. Grades 8 & 9 are to find out what homeroom they are in, location of the classroom, and homeroom teacher.
  • Class lists will be posted on the walls in the foyer as students come in the west entrance.
  • Students will be asked to make their way to their homerooms at the 8:30 AM bell, or ask for directions of staff members and/or office.
  • If you know you will be away or not attending John Ware School, please call the school at 403-777-7930, ext.1 and leave a message.
  • We traditionally have a team building activity at some point during the day, we encourage students to wear comfortable clothing and footwear (runners) for the activity.
