Construction & Technology

The aim of the construction and technology course is to enable students to use a variety of tools safely and properly and create a final project using wood.

Goals

Students will:

• Demonstrate a working knowledge of materials, tools and processes that are used to create an end product.
• Develop positive attitudes toward individual and teamwork responsibilities.
• Develop an appreciation for health and safety in the work place.

Shop Safety

The shop is highly equipped with some of the best tools in the industry. The machines are safeguarded as much as possible, but there is still the chance of being injured if the machines are used improperly or carelessly. We will be spending ample time on how to properly use the tools and machines and each student will be required to complete a safety test before working with any of the tools in the shop.

Behavioral Expectations

Due to the high risk of injury, behavioral expectations are high in the shop. If students are not living up to the expectations, they will be dealt with immediately and may risk the chance of losing their privilege of using the tools. Respect yourself, respect your peers, respect the tools and respect your teacher.

Projects

Throughout the term, students will be given the opportunity to test their skills with the tools and build a project that they will be able to take home to use and enjoy.

Supplies

A folder will be provided to each student to keep assignments, tests, quizzes and shop plans. Student’s are required to bring a pencil and pen to each and every class.

Shop Clean-up

At the end of each class, the shop will need to be properly cleaned so that the next class using the shop will have a clean and safe working environment. All the tools will be put back in their proper location and the machines will be cleaned. Everyone in the class will be responsible for cleaning up the shop.

Clothing

Appropriate clothing is necessary when working in the shop. Loose fitted clothing is a safety hazard. Do dress appropriately.
