Security

Visitors & Volunteers

All parents and visitors are required to sign in at the office.

We encourage volunteers at Killarney School. Volunteers must check in the office and wear a Killarney Visitor Tag for easy identification. This helps to ensure the safety and security of the school. The CBE requires that Volunteer Security Clearance forms be filled out prior to volunteering in any capacity. These forms take a few weeks to clear through CBE downtown, so please complete forms early in the year. Please see the admin assistant in the office for the  necessary forms with one piece of government-issued ID, with your picture (e.g. driver’s license).

Custody

We release children only to parents unless the parent has made other arrangements with the school. Please discuss custody situations with the Principal and classroom teacher. Where there is a possibility of custody conflict, please leave copies of related legal documents with the office for filing, as only these documents are binding.

Lunch Hour / After School Plans

Student safety is our first concern. If there is a change in your child’s usual plan for lunch time or after school, please send a signed note to the office to inform lunchroom supervisors and/or the busing assistant. Each student will need to have his or her parent/guardian send a signed note to the office to indicate a change of plan for going home on the bus or regarding a different adult for student pick-up.

Playground Supervision

  • 8:33 AM – 8:47 AM
  • 12:20 PM – 12:55 PM
  • **Thursdays 12:05 PM – 1:00 PM**

Students should arrive at school in the morning or at lunchtime during the times that supervision is available. There is no supervision prior to these times. Your cooperation in ensuring that your child does not arrive before the designated times is appreciated. Student safety is our first concern. Students are expected to remain outside until a teacher directs them to enter the building.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
