Dear Families,

We had a wonderful week last week as students participated in the annual Terry Fox Run and raised over $1900 for cancer research! We are so grateful to all families who donated money and we thank you for your generous support. Students were so excited to hear this news when we made the announcement that there was an eruption of cheering through the halls!

We have been awaiting the presentation from Notorious Cree and this has been delayed. We will keep you informed about when this presentation will happen. We would like to remind you that we will have a non-instructional day on Friday Sep 24. There is no school on this day for students.

Elections Day

On Monday, King George School will be a polling station for the Federal Elections. We have met with the Central Polling Supervisor to review all protocols and safety measures. Elections Canada will have 4 supervisors in our hallways to ensure voters proceed as directed. At this time, voters will only be using our main doors and will go to the gym to vote and come back out through the main doors. All other access points, doors, will be closed off with clear and visible signs. Voters will also not be permitted to use the student washrooms by the gym. Elections Canada will be at the main doors to ensure voters use hand sanitizer and are wearing masks. Elections Canada personnel will also be offering pencils for single use. Physical distancing signs and measures will be in place as well. In terms of our school programming, we will continue to follow our regular routines for morning entrance/exit. We have made some adjustments for mid-day entry/exit in order to limit the number of students on the main floor. As in past elections held at King George, if students need to leave their class during the day, they will proceed with a buddy.

Open House/Meet the Teacher

We are looking forward to our Open House/Meet the Teacher evening on Thursday September 23. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, learn about program expectations, as well as routines and procedures. Please sign up using your MyCBE/PowerSchool account. We apologize for the delays when the conference booking opened last week. We are looking into the issue and hope that it will be resolved so you can book during the week.

Lunch Kits, Clothing and Personal Belongings

We request that students take the time to label all their belongings which they bring to school, including lunch kits and clothing. As many lost and found items accumulate, this certainly helps to return items back to original owners in a timely fashion.

School Safety Patrols – Signs and Signals

Our AMA School Safety Patrols have started their patrolling for this school year. It’s so important that when you’re driving or walking to school, you obey the school patrollers’ signs and signals. When patrollers are holding out their stop signs, this means vehicle traffic must stop, so pedestrians can cross the crosswalk. Once patrollers blow their whistle and step back with the stop signs behind their backs, it is safe for vehicles to proceed, and pedestrians to wait until the next crossing.

Bikes, Scooters, Skateboards

We are so pleased to see many of our students and families walking and riding bikes to school. For safety reasons, we request that you walk your bikes, scooters and skateboards when within the school grounds and on the compounds. Thank you.

Student Code of Conduct and Progressive Student Discipline

All CBE schools follow the administrative regulations on Student Code of Conduct and Progressive Student Discipline. Please familiarize yourself with these regulations as our work with students and families will focus on the expectations contained within these regulations. You can learn more about this on our website.

Student Fees

Student agenda fees have been posted in your MyCBE/PowerSchool account. When you log in, you will see a fee of $6.70 per student. Fees to be posted in the coming weeks include:
Student Supplies Fees of $40 for students in grades 1-5, and $20 for Kindergarten, transportation and noon hour supervision. No child is ever denied access to an education in the CBE because of an inability to pay. The CBE has a waiver process for families who can’t afford to pay the fees. Visit the CBE’s Waivers page for more information and the documents required as proof of income or extraordinary circumstances.
