Grade 11 IB

You’ve made a big decision: to be part of the Pearson IB community. Congratulations!

Pearson offers the following courses to Grade 11 IB students:

  • Physics SL (Phys 20/30 IB) or Biology SL (Bio 20/30 IB)
  • French SL (French 30/31 IB)
  • Chemistry 20 HL (Chemistry 20 IB)
  • Literature HL (ELA 20-1 IB)
  • History HL (Social Studies 20-1 IB)
  • Math SL (Math 20 IB)
  • Visual Art 20 PIB

Students in Physics IB, Biology IB, and French IB will write their IB Exams in May of Grade 11. Students in Physics IB and Biology IB will also be writing the Alberta Diploma Exam for Physics 30 or Biology 30 in June of Grade 11.

Students in Chemistry 20 IB, ELA 20-1 IB, Social Studies 20-1 IB, and Visual Art 20 PIB will not complete their IB course and write IB exams until May of Grade 12, and the Alberta Diploma Exam in June of Grade 12.

Students who are working towards their IB Diploma will also be required to continue or begin work in the three parts of the IB Core: CAS, the EE, and TOK class.

For Current Grade 11 IB Students

The most important skill for an IB student to learn is time management! Learn to keep track of deadlines in a calendar (on-line, paper, whatever works for you), work on assignments before they’re due, attend Success Support, and don’t be afraid to ask your teachers for help when you start feeling stressed. Teachers want you to be successful: if you’re working hard, they’ll work just as hard to help you achieve your goals.

Whether you are working on Certificates or a Diploma, writing exams this year or next, it is important for you to know what is going on in IB. It is your responsibility to keep track of deadlines, submit your work on time, talk to your teachers, and continue to grow as a student.

The Core

  • CASCAS Log and Expectations
  • EE: the Extended Essay
  • TOK: Theory of Knowledge
