Security

Visitors & Volunteers Sign-In

All parents, visitors and volunteers must report directly to the office and receive a visitor card before proceeding to other areas of the school. This is an additional security measure to keep our school safe. Please note that, under no circumstances, can a visitor (including parents) go to the classrooms without checking-in to the office first. They must also wear a name tag while in the school.

During school hours, the school is deemed to be private property and is not open to the general public. We therefore request the following:

  • Parents may wait outside, on the landing inside the building by the doors that their child exits from or at the office. At 3:50 p.m. dismissal we have over 550 students exiting from three doorways, so we ask that parents wait outside until the bell rings. When it is bitterly cold, we welcome parents into the school to stay warm until students are dismissed.
  • If parents wish to meet with teachers after school, they can come to the office and request at meeting. Please make sure you are checking in first. Teachers have been encouraged to go with their students to the door so you may be able to catch them there.
  • If parents have an item to drop off during class time, we will page your child prior to a natural break to come the office to pick up items.
  • Students are not to leave the school property on their own at lunchtime if school staff normally supervise them. They must be signed out.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
