Scholastic Book Fair - March 17 - 20 - Volunteers Needed

Hello Special Events Volunteers!

Its that time of year again! The Marion Carson Parent Association will be hosting one of our students favorite events: The Scholastic Book Fair! Last year we raised over $2000 that went directly back into Marion Carson and benefited OUR students with new books and special events!

We can't pull this off without help from parents like you! We will be open to sell to classes during the day, during recess, lunch hour and after school during Parent Teacher Interviews. We are looking for 2-3 volunteers for each shift who can collect money from sales, tidy up, and monitor the book fair- its super easy and no experience is necessary.  Please sign up below!

Week of Giving – December 9 – 13 - This service learning activity is meant to teach our students about the importance of giving at a time of year when receiving is often on their minds. This also is voluntary and we want parents to know that if your family is not in the position to donate, your child can still participate in the fun activities. Thank you for your support! In total we collected two vehicles full of food, toiletries, mitts and toques and $1164. Wow! Marion Carson Families you are awesome! Thank you to Claire and Marcus for driving the donations down to the Mustard Seed. When they delivered the items they both were very touched by the experience. One of them said, "I pass on 'Blessings' and 'Merry Christmas' from the Mustard Seed to all the staff and students at Marion Carson. Your generosity and the appreciation from the folks at the Mustard Seed has touched my heart in a very profound way."


The Marion Carson Special Events team will be hosting a cookie bake sale for students on December 18th 2019.

Donations - We are asking families to donate individually wrapped cookies that will be sold to the students.

All proceeds will go towards future Special Events.

Nut free baking – A table of nut-free baking will be available for students with nut allergies. This table will be stocked with cookies made from families with nut allergies in order to eliminate cross contamination.

These cookies will only be sold to those students who have nut allergies.

The success of this event is entirely dependent upon donations from our families! Thank you for your participation!

Please drop off individually wrapped donations to the staff room on Dec.18th at 9 am, or send them with your children.

Each student will be allowed to buy 4 cookies for $1.

VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED - Marion Carson Parent Association – Elbow River Casino - Dec 19 & 20

 As you may know, Marion Caron Parent Association will be hosting a Casino Event on Thursday, December 19 and Friday, December 20, 2019 at the Elbow River Casino.  

 These events only occur approximately once every 2 years and typically generate between $65,000 to $70,000 for the school.  All students at Marion Carson will benefit from the funds raised through this event.

We need to find 42 volunteers to staff the casino over the 2-day event.  No training is required.  All welcome including grandparents and friends. No CBE security clearance needed.  This is a great way to meet other parents, support the school and should be lots of fun.

Cheque Writing Campaign – It is that time again when we are requesting donations to our school in lieu of multiple fund raising activities. In the past parents asked that we try to ask for donations so that all funds go to our school instead of to another organization making profits from goods they are selling. On the linked document you will see the list of items purchased this past year and the plans for the upcoming year. This is strictly voluntary and we request that if you make a donation that it be within the means of your family's budget. In order to reduce costs, we are sending the form explaining the program through this email. Please contact Mrs. Cinnamon ( by email if you would like a paper copy sent home. From a donations perspective, ways to give to our school include:

  • Contributing cash: donations over $25 are tax deductible and cheques can be made out to the Calgary Board of Education
