Athletics

Marshall Springs School supports and believes in the benefits that may be realized through participation in sports programming and are proud to offer developmental athletics participation opportunities to our students. Participation in Calgary Middle-Level School Amateur Athletics (CMLSAA) leagues is offered to students in grades 6 through 9 for the seasons of play for Cross Country, Volleyball, Wrestling, Basketball, Badminton, and Track and Field. Marshall Springs also aims to offer recreational opportunities that are available to all students. We value community involvement and are happy to welcome community expertise in the form of volunteer coaches. If this is something that may interest you please contact Ricky Mak at rymak@cbe.ab.ca.

MSS Athletics Teams

There is a broad selection of interscholastic sports teams for interested students in Grades 6 through 9, provided by the Middle School Athletics. Volleyball and Cross Country running start the year off, followed by Wrestling, Basketball, Badminton, and Track and Field.  We encourage all students to get involved in our extra-curricular program, whether it is interscholastic or intramural, to enhance their physical and social development. Students interested in interscholastic athletics must have completed the CBE annual athletic authorization form.

Intramural Sports

  • Everyone is welcome to participate
  • The emphasis is on learning the game/sport and having fun
  • Friendly, cooperative games take place, usually against teams from the same grade
  • Cost is covered by the noon hour supervision and activity fee

Interscholastic Sports

  • Evaluations determine who will be selected for the teams
  • The emphasis is on competitive play
  • Players compete at various schools in the CBE
  • There is a team fee for playing to cover costs of running the team, for example, tournaments and referees

Athletic Try-out Authorization Form

The Annual Authorization for Athletic Tryout form must be filled out and returned to the Physical Education team to participate in tryouts for any team. This form allows students to participate in extra-curricular athletic programming prior to being assigned to a team.  Please bring this form to the try-out for school teams.  We suggest you select all sports so that you only have to fill the form out once for the year, it is a permission that allows students to participate if they wish, not a commitment to try out.
