Back to School Information

On Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022 we welcome our students to the 2022-2023 school year at Marshall Springs School. 

The school office will be open for registrations on Aug. 29-31 from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM.

First Day of Classes

Teachers will be contacting each of the students in their homerooms to introduce themselves and to let you know where your child(ren) will meet on the first day. If you happen to miss this attempted contact we will also have class lists posted in the main foyer.

Hot Dog Lunch Day

To kick off the start of the new school year, we will be having a beef hot dog lunch on our first day for all of the students and staff. Each student will receive an all beef hot dog, bag of chips and water. Note: There is a vegetarian option available upon request; however we are unable to accommodate other dietary restrictions / allergies. Please send a lunch for your child on this day if they are not able to eat the lunch provided. 

School Start & End Times

Our bell times are Monday – Thursday 8:30am – 3:04pm and Fridays 8:30am – 11:38am.
Lunch times are as follows:
Mon & Tues - 11:27am to 12:07pm
Wed &Thurs - 11:45am to 12:25pm

Program Overview

Grade 6 

Grade 6 students will receive daily instruction in Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, Physical Education/Personal Living Skills (Health). Students will also have 5 electives per year (Art, Music, Technology, Drama, and French).

Grade 7

Grade 7 students will receive daily instruction in Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, Physical Education/Personal Living Skills (Health). Students will have the option of taking half year *Band. The following electives courses are offered quarterly: *Art, *Ceramics, Technology, *Construction, Drama, Fashion, Film Studies, *Foods, French, Photography, and Recreational Leadership (Sports Performance).
 *While the per student fee covers most of the electives cost at Marshall Springs, there is a nominal fee for selected electives.

Grade 8

Grade 8 students will receive daily instruction in Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Science, Physical Education/Personal Living Skills (Health). Supplies

Locks for student lockers will be provided and assigned to students by their homeroom teachers on the first day of classes. There is a fee to replace locks that go missing. For safety and security reasons, students are not able to bring their own locks from home.

Grade 6 School Supply List - Please ensure that all items are labelled.

The following is a general list of supplies that will be required by grade 6 students at Marshall Springs School. All other supplies will be provided by your child’s homeroom teacher*. Although the school supplies notebooks, pencils, etc are supplied; students are expected to take responsibility for their materials.

  • Backpack 
  • Pencil Case
  • 1 pair of indoor PE shoes (must be athletic shoes with non-marking soles)
  • Athletic change of clothing for participation in Physical Education. Students have the option of purchasing Marshall Springs School tee / shorts from the MSS Clothing Store (more details to follow)
  • Headphones/Earbuds
  • Chromebook (Recommended, not required)

Please ensure that all items are labelled.

*Supplies are based on a shared supply model – however, if you would like your child to have their own supplies, please send the following: glue stick, scissors, pencil sharpener, pencil crayons, highlighter, ultra-fine sharpies, dry erase markers, ruler and a basic calculator. 

Grade 7 – 9 School Supply List - Please ensure that all items are labelled.

The following is a general list of supplies that will be required by all Grade 7, 8 & 9 students at Marshall Springs School. Students are responsible for replacing these items as they are depleted throughout the year.

  • Pencils

  • Pens (at least two colours)
  • Subject Dividers
  • Writable/Removable Tab dividers
  • College Ruled Composition Book
  • Highlighters (4 colours)
  • Erasers
  • 2 Binders (min. 1.5”, no zipper binders please)

Lunch Supervision & Cafeteria Information

Our cafeteria will open on Friday, September 2, 2022 with a regular full service menu. Menu items and prices can be picked up from the office or cafeteria. The cafeteria accepts cash and debit.

Students in Grades 6 who stay for lunch need to register for lunch supervision. This must be done via your MyCBE account and needs to be done within the first week of school.

Parents / Legal Guardians / Independent Students who have not already done so, must create a MyCBE account and add their child(ren) to the account to:

  • access your child’s program information (e.g., course assessments, daily attendance record, report card)
  • view your child’s learning using Brightspace by D2L
  • pay fees and request waivers
  • register for transportation and lunch ​supervision
  • book parent-teacher conferences
  • submit online school forms (required for 2022-23 school year)

​​Fees and Waivers

School fees will be charged to families starting in October. Online fee payment is the simplest and most convenient way to pay school fees. Parents can use their online account to pay fees or apply for a waiver at: www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe.

​​​​Yellow School Bus Tra​nsportation

Yellow school bus routes for the 2022-23 school year are created o​ver the summer and based on the addresses submitted before the pre-registration deadline in June. Transportation continues to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.

Your bus stop location and time will be available in your MyCBE account by mid-August.

Conditional riders can also register using MyCBE. Applications will be considered after eligible riders registrations have been processed.
