Security

Visitors & Volunteers Sign-In & Out

We keep our school a safe place. All doors are locked when school is in session. We ask all visitors to enter by the front door, sign in and out of the office, and wear a tag issued by the office while in the school.

Entrances & Exits

Students are to enter and leave the building at their designated doors. Carry boots and outdoor shoes to and from their classroom. Please remove hats when entering the building. Decide on a common outside meeting spot for family and friends.

The assignment of entry and exit doors has been made in consideration of the number of students entering
at a given location as well as proximity to designated classrooms in the school. Students do not enter or exit the school via the front doors except when met by a parent during the school day for appointments etc. We ask parents who are meeting their children at the end of the day to meet their children outside the school at the designated doors. Please note that for the 2017-18 School Year grade 1 busing students will enter and exit through the front doors under the supervision of Mrs. Pletz and other members of the administration team.

If you need to meet your child in the school at the end of the day, please pick them up in the front office and notify your child’s teacher that you will be meeting your child in the office. Students are asked not to exit the school through the front doors as opening the interior doors presents a security risk.

Notifications | Riding the Bus Home

If your child will not be riding the bus home, you must notify the school through a note, or phone call. If you do not notify the school to indicate otherwise, your child will be placed on the bus. Students who ride the bus or bicycle to school will use their designated door to exit and then will go around to the front of the school to access buses and bicycles.

Meeting Areas

After school, children should meet their “walking groups” at a place outside the school and are encouraged to go home first before making play arrangements.

Supervision

The school provides playground supervision at recess and 15 minutes prior to entrance times (7:45 AM and 12:03 PM). Students are not to arrive at school before these times. Unless students are taking part in a school-supervised activity they are asked to go home at the 2:35 PM dismissal bell.

Student Safety

The school maintains an emergency information file for each student. This file is updated each school year. Please notify the school immediately of any change of address, phone number, or emergency contact.

Court Orders

Some families go through the painful process of splitting up. In such cases where parents go their separate ways, we need a copy of supporting legal documents on file at the school that outlines the legal rights of the parties. Please be sure to inform the school of the limitations in such court orders.

School Closures

Parents will be advised of school closures, for any reason, via reports on the radio or TV, and through notices on the CBE website and on this website.

Fire Drills

All CBE schools are required to practice a minimum of 6 fire drills and 2 lockdown procedures. During fire drills we teach the students to remain silent at all times, move to the correct exit, and go to their assigned areas outdoors in order to evacuate the building safely. Students are asked to wear shoes at all times for their safety.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.
