Parents Are Our Partners
Parents at McKenzie Towne School often show an interest in their child’s topic of study and often expand the project with books, family outings, lessons, selected TV programs and supervised homework. A great technique is having your child “teach” you. Home programs have been set up with many families through the resource teacher, speech therapist and classroom teacher. Teachers often use Google Docs with their students where their work can be stored and accessed from home. If you are interested in seeing your child’s Google Doc account, please ask your child to log on. You may also contact your child’s teacher for more information.
Music Program
Music is an integral part of our students’ weekly program. Having music specialists provides program continuity as they are given opportunities to learn through many different approaches. Throughout the year, you will have opportunities to watch your children perform.
Kindergarten classes host AM and PM concerts during class time. Parents and family members are welcome to attend. Grades 1 and 2 will participate in a Christmas concert in December. Grades 3 and 4 will perform in the Spring concert/musical in May.
Physical Education
We have daily physical education. Our school enjoys offering a quality physical education program utilizing a spacious gymnasium; Students from Grades K-4 are scheduled for classes with our P.E. specialist. Research indicates that daily physical education improves academic performance and helps to ensure optimal physical growth and development.
Time is short during the school day to provide sufficient physical exercise for all students. Therefore, we hope many physical activities are initiated frequently at home.
Homework
Parents are encouraged to discuss their child’s daily school activities and to review together the daily classroom online agenda for any important messages posted by the teacher. For regular updates, view our Teacher Blogs. Parent’s interest in schoolwork is an important and motivational factor for a child’s success. If students encounter difficulties, we invite you to communicate with the teacher so that the problem can be addressed.
