Friday Early Dismissals

At Midnapore School we follow a practice of “time-banking” which means we add instructional minutes to each day, Monday through Thursday, to allow teachers to be involved in professional development activities during the afternoon on Fridays. The total number of instructional hours for students does not change and continues to meet (and exceed) the required 950 instructional hours mandated by Alberta Education for Grades 1-6, and 475 instructional hours mandated for Kindergarten.

Student Supervision

The staff provides school ground supervision at the following times throughout the school day:

  • Morning  7:45 – 8:00 AM  (The creative playground will not be supervised prior to school starting).
  • Afternoon 11:30 –12:15 PM

There is no supervision provided after school. In order to provide maximum safety for students, we ask that they go home directly after school. Students are not permitted to use the office phones to make after-school plans with friends. These plans need to be in place prior to school starting.

Students who go home for lunch should not return until 12:10 PM at the earliest.

Concerns & Complaints

We know that the success of your student is dependent on a strong partnership between families and the CBE. If you have a concern, it can usually be addressed at the classroom level. Your first step is to arrange to speak privately with your child’s teacher. If you feel your issue is still unresolved, please contact your principal. If you and the school are unable to find a resolution, please see our Concerns & Complaints page for additional information, including the process to contact your Area Director.

RT @UsihChristopher: We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to make this learning shift for next week. Each year Alberta Education sends an important survey to parents/guardians of students in Grades 4, 7 and 10. The results are used to assess satisfaction with the quality of education & we use the information to improve teaching and learning. https://t.co/S1qsRKBerD #yycbe
