Cold weather days provide challenges in all elementary schools. Providing parents with the safety plan we have in place at Midnapore School, we hope will alleviate concerns.:
- When the temperature drops below –22 degrees Celsius we keep the children inside.
- Between approximately –16 and –22 degrees, school administrators will determine whether the conditions necessitate keeping the children indoors or favorable enough to give them the option to go out for a bit of fresh air. On such days, the children are informed that if they get cold they are welcome to come inside and warm up.
- When the temperature is minus –16 or warmer we have outdoor recess/lunch so please ensure your child is dressed appropriately with hats, mitts, snow pants and scarves.
Patrols on Cold Weather Days
Parents of children who walk to school need to be aware that on days when the temperature drops below –20 degrees Celsius, school patrols may not be outside. On such extreme weather days, one of the staff patrol supervisors will go out and assist the children with their crossing.
Parents/guardians always make the final decision as to whether or not it is safe to send their child to school. If parents decide to send their child to school when the weather is severe, the school will be open to receive them. No student will ever be reprimanded for missing school in bad weather.
