Personal Belongings

Care of Personal Property

The school is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal property. Students are advised to leave items of value at home and not share their locker combinations.

Lost & Found

Students are advised to check in the office for any items that may have been turned in. Items not claimed by the end of the school year will be donated.

Personal Listening Devices, Phones, Laptops, Tablets, etc.

Our staff believes these devices can be great tools for learning. Easy access to research materials, day timers and planners, or apps to take notes and organize them are wonderful tools at the fingertips of our learners. They can also be distractors in the learning environment. Therefore, the use of electronic devices at MidSun School must only happen in a responsible and respectful way. Students are asked to make sure that all cell phones are turned off and left in lockers during instructional time. Before and after school and at lunch students are asked to always have one ear free in order to hear any important instructions should they be necessary. Before and after school and during lunch if students are using their devices inappropriately, the teacher may ask students to put them in their locker. Please note a separate calculator is required for students to use during exams. Students who choose not to follow our personal device policy will have the following progressive consequences:

  • First Incident: Student will be asked to put their personal device in their locker.
  • Second Incident: Student will be asked to bring their personal device to the office where it will be stored securely until the end of the day when the student may pick them up. Parents and guardians will be contacted.
  • Third Incident: Student will bring their personal device to the office where a parent or legal guardian will be asked to pick up the device.

MidSun School is not responsible for the safety of personal electronic devices.

Skateboards, Scooters, In-line Skates/Roller Blades & Heelies

In the CBE School Based Safety Resource Guide, these activities are listed as prohibited on-site activities and equipment. Students may use these modes of transportation to get to and from school but must walk once on CBE property. We have new skateboard racks being installed at the front of our school for student use. Students should lock their skateboards and scooters up during the day and take their lock home with them at the end of each day.

Bicycles and Bicycle Helmets

Under provincial legislation all youth, under 18, must wear a CSA, ATM or Snell-approved helmet. MidSun school supports this legislation and expects that any student who rides their bicycle on school property will be in compliance with this law. Students should lock their bike up during the day and take their lock home with them at the end of each day.
