Grade 7

At MPS we use MyCBE / PowerSchool as a tool for parents to see what is going on with their children while at school. MyCBE / PowerSchool allows parents to access demographic information, attendance, student’s assessments (the teachers’ record book of assignments and grades), report cards, and allows for course requests each year. To access this information, parents need to log in to their MyCBE / PowerSchool account (where you pay school fees and for field trips) and select their student.

Grade 7 Complimentary Program Overview

*For the 2020 - 2021 school year all students will take all courses.

CTF Tech 7

This introductory technology class will look into the areas of basic computer use, including the storage and retrieval of files, email usage, and PowerPoint skill development.  Students will look into the use of the Scratch Programming language and simple game development through an object oriented, drag and drop, programming language.

Drama 7

In drama students are asked to be the creator, performer and critic of theatrical work.  They will be creating characters and plot lines while working on such skills as vocal clarity and body control.  After the rehearsal process has completed they will perform their work for the class and work to identify and learn from the skills being presented by others

Art 7

Art offers students the opportunity to create visual art using media that ensures safety in the studio setting.  Students can look forward to drawing projects that involve drawing what they see combined with artistic impressions.  Project work will culminate with students critiquing their work to share their ideas regarding what they like best about their artwork and any possible improvements they might be able to identify.

Music 7

There are many fascinating components required to create great music.  This course will include the chance to discover a variety of music appreciation topics as well as the opportunity to develop percussion performance skills.  All great bands: rock, pop, country, garage and symphonic have AWESOME DRUMMERS!  In this class, we will learn snare drum, drum-kit and auxiliary percussion techniques. This course is designed to let students work at their own level.  No previous music experience necessary.  For those students who have some previous background in music, we can work with more advanced topics and techniques.

Construction/CTF Multi-cluster 7

Construction: Students will learn safety and the proper use of tools and machinery to construct small projects. These small projects will help students develop the skills necessary to become successful in the final portion of the program.  The final portion of the program will require students to design, create, articulate and appraise projects.  Grade seven students focus on a structures and forces unit that may include the construction of either bridges, trusses or towers.

CTF Multi-cluster: In this introductory course students will identify and explore their interests and passions, and begin thinking about their futures.  Career and Technology Foundations (CTF) is a curriculum designed around occupation areas.  The CTF Multi-cluster course provides students with the opportunity for meaningful and authentic exploration of various occupational areas. Possible topics include: personal attributes and passions, jobs of the future, entrepreneurship, required post-secondary education, costs/benefits of jobs, and other student-driven topics.
