ACCESS
October 23rs, 2019
Hello ACCESS families,
Hope all is well and that you are having a great year. We have had a busy first 6 weeks of school and all students have been successful and working hard in class. We have completed our Friendship unit and the students worked on discovering the qualities that make a good friend and how to be good friends to their peers. We have begun a new “Fall” theme and have been working on pumpkin counting in a ten frame and also have worked with apples. So far the students have gone outside and looked for signs of Fall. They have also completed a science activity where they were asked to dissect an apple and categorize it into its parts in a sorting tray (skin, flesh, core, seeds). We are also working on a pumpkin patch art project that should be finished soon. We have been taking the opportunity of getting outside as much as possible and staying active before the snow comes. We continue to complete vocational activities including the school bottle and paper recycling and doing the laundry for the Mount Royal sports’ teams. I hope that everyone is excited to come to school and is enjoying this year as much as I am.
Take care and have a wonderful Fall!
Important upcoming dates:
October 31st-Halloween Dance. Students can dress up. No weapons or masks.
November 1st- No school PD Day
November 11th- No school for Remembrance Day
Take care,
Alex and Trisha

Good afternoon ACCESS families,
Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely weather and getting the chance to spend time outside. I know that with snow in the forecast next Friday, we are definitely going to take advantage of the weather and burn off some energy outside. It has been a really good start to the year and all students are doing well and feeling daily success. This could be anything from success in working on patterns or number sequencing for some students to success for staring to slowly join in on learning activities and group time. My biggest goal in the first two months is to have all students feeling secure, successful and having formed a trusting relationship with us. Right now, we are still working on our friendship unit until the end of September, which has been a great way to get the students to learn more about each other and feel comfortable in class. We completed our first school wide fire drill on Wednesday and our class did awesome. All students performed exactly as they did during our practice fire drill, so Kudos to you all. In early October I will be sending out an IPP meeting signup sheet and we can work out a time that is convenient and work together on setting goals and discussing priority learning cycles.

Good afternoon ACCESS families,
We have had another busy week of learning here at Mount Royal. The students have already started to get back into school routine and we have had a successful start to the year, with all students working hard and having positive interactions in class. The returning students have been very welcoming and helpful in ensuring that our new students are feeling comfortable and accepted. We have been busy with our friendship unit and this week we looked at how to ensure you are being a good friend and also worked on developing skills to ask another student to play. We have started number sequencing in math and have also began to introduce some literacy activities connected to friendship, such as learning new friendship words including Kind Happy, Nice, Loyal, Honest. We were even able to get out and enjoy the weather and go on our first community walk on Thursday. Just a note on next Thursday’s Meet the Teacher night. It takes place form 6:30-8:00 P.M. in the gym. I would just like to clarify that these are not IPP meetings or parent teacher conferences. It is an open house and is meant to be a chance for parents to come and meet all the teachers at the school. I will be there beside my trifold in the gym with Mr. Locey explaining what the TASC and ACCESS programs are. The IPP conferences will take place in October and we can get together then to set goals. If there are any specific goals you would like your child to work towards, please send me a note or an email and I will do my best to accommodate you.
Take care and have a wonderful weekend,
Alex, Trisha, and Ashley
Dear Parents/Guardians:
For those returning to Mount Royal School’s ACCESS class, welcome back! And to those students new to the class, welcome to Mount Royal School. We have had a busy first week visiting with old friends and getting to know the new students in the class. We have supported this by starting off with a friendship unit. The students have learned about what qualities make a good friend and some qualities that might indicate a bad friend. We extended this with some group “get to know you” games and art projects and so far everyone appears to feel comfortable in class and happy at the school. We look forward to an exciting and productive year with your children by fostering and maintaining an open, supportive and safe learning environment. It is our goal to ensure that all students are all experiencing daily success and are excited to come to school. I hope you are enjoying the nice weather as much as we are. We are planning to start taking advantage of the weather and go on community walks once a week. This is just a reminder that if you are planning to pick up your child earlier than dismissal time, please let us know by sending an email or calling the school the night before or in the morning. This way we can adjust our schedule for you to pick them up. Also, just to let you know, we have both a snack at 10:00 AM and then lunch at 12:00 so if you choose to, please send both a snack and a lunch Monday to Thursday and then just a snack for early dismissal Friday.
These are some important upcoming important dates:
- Thursday September 12th-community walk 1:00P.M.-1:30 P.M.
- No school on Friday September 20th
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to phone the school at (403) 777-7980. We look forward to a great year!!
Alex and the ACCESS team.
