Our school offers options to suit our students’ unique learning needs, interests and abilities. All of our courses follow the Alberta Programs of Study

Complementary Courses

We believe that students have talents outside of the academic areas and need an opportunity to explore different learning activities. We offer a full range of complementary courses with the specific courses offered dependent on staff expertise and student enrollment.

  • Mount Royal has two semesters each year and students take the equivalent of two options each semester for a total of four options per year (full year courses such as band count as two options).

These courses are multi-graded, which allows students to work with and get to know students across all three grades, developing community within our school. In many of their options, students will be working using the principles of the Career and Technology Foundations (CTF) program. The CTF program is an inquiry-based, hands-on Program of Study designed for students in grades 5 through 9 that focuses on essential skills common to all 28 occupational areas. The program also allows for the development of specific skills through the processes of designing, creating, appraising and communicating.
